An Ode To Basics

October 19, 2014 by Ria 1 Comment

Dear Basics,

I don’t wear you enough. I should but I don’t.

You feel too simple, even dull at times and I often forget you exist whenever a new fashion season rolls in. I get too seduced by the bright and shiny shop windows and endless e-newsletters proclaiming that these are the new must-have items to wear instead of you.

I call you basic but you have other names too.

Far more flattering names like

  • ‘staple’,
  • ‘classic’
  • ‘timeless’

I prefer the last, because when the twinkling excited feeling of having fresh in season design fades, you’re always there to soothe my wardrobe dilemmas like a warm blanket time and time again.

You’re part of that ‘capsule wardrobe’ that I crave to live by but never seem to have. You’re the solid foundation to build on.

The lazy girl’s answer to a quick fashion fix.

So, I’m sorry I don’t appreciate you more basics. Take this as my tribute to you.
