As always one of my personal highlights in the Paris fashion week schedule is the big Chanel showcase at Grand Palais, Lagerfeld has gone for some interesting themes in the past few years, some fabulous (AW14’s Chanel Supermarket and AW08 winter wonderland carousel), some questionable (last year’s SS15 collection and feminist march, though he probably did this with the best intentions).
This season Grand Palais was transformed into the uber luxe Brasserie Gabrielle, a nod to Parisian cafe culture and the French reputation for fine dining. Though obviously many reviews centred around the impeccable style of the venue (which you can view in full HD glory on Style.com), let’s take a minute to appreciate the beauty of this collection too.
This season Lagerfeld presented us with a perfect throwback to the label’s roots, with nods to many of Chanel’s early designs. This season’s Chanel girl was both the personification of the glamour of that early 1930s era and tribute to Coco’s own impeccably timeless style.
As well as the more traditional elements we know and love about the design house (the tweed print, French Rivera-inspired dressing and neutral filled colour palette), this season see more of Lagerfeld’s love of experimentation with modern architectural design elements like his new take on the studded bomber jacket. Some of my favourite pieces have come with the reinvention of the LBD, with Chanel’s updated dresses have more swing, more velvet and and skim the upper thighs and are adorned with frills and bows. All in all a fantastic collection, one of my favourites from Lagerfeld for a long time!
