Guys let me introduce you to my latest TV obsession, Orphan Black.
Following the story of Sarah Manning, who after witnessing the suicide of a woman who looks just like her, decides to take her identity to start a new life for herself and her young daughter Kira. But that’s only the start of Sarah’s story, because the woman wasn’t just her look-a-like the woman – who we later learn is called Beth Childs – was her clone and she’s not the only one out there. Sarah soon ends up in a tangled web, discovering her fellow clones along the way and the truth as to why they were created…all whilst trying not to get killed.
In celebration of Orphan Black returning to BBC America this week – and hopefully on BBC3 some time soon too, please and thanks Beeb Bosses! – I thought I’d showcase the style of the women of Orphan Black. Say hello to the Clone Club.
Sarah Manning A.K.A Bad-ass biker chick clone)
Sarah is tough, no-nonsense and a complete action superhero. When she’s not masquerading as her other clones she’s living it up as a badass rock chick. Think all black skinnies, leather jackets and band t-shirts (like the one that almost got her busted when pretending to be Beth the first time).
Alison Hendricks A.K.A Suburban Soccer Mom clone
It’s unlikely you’ll want to fully emulate the prim and proper, Alison, but I have to admit she wins some serious style points for active-wear. Though her gym gear is probably not a look you’ll want to don everyday, it will definitely score you major points on the treadmill. When Alison does dress up it’s she definitely sticks to the classics with an Hepburn-esque LBD and twinset.
Helena A.K.A. The Bat-sh*t crazy indie assassin clone
Behind the terrifying exterior (and morbid amounts of dried blood) Helena is a really softy and fiercely loyal to her ‘sestras’. Her wardrobe is definitely cobbled together with a rag-tag bunch of pieces for practicality and warmth but I can’t help but love her signature huge fur hood parka.
Cosima A.K.A. Boho science clone
Cosima is my absolute f a v o u r i t e in the show, partly because she’s incredibly intelligent and general pretty awesome, but also because her wardrobe is to die for. To emulate ‘science clone’ you’ll need to dig around those thrift stores for ethnic prints and comfy lounge-wear, alternatively Urban Outfitters, Free People and American Apparel should be your friends on the high-street. And if you wanna go for the whole Cosima look try and track down her super cute glasses and get yourself some piercings too.
Rachel A.K.A. Yuppie gone wild clone
And of course our black sheep of the bunch who has a killer wardrobe to match. Rachel is even more tightly wound than Beth Childs (when she was alive) and even Allison, but fashion-wise she sticks to statement classics. Her wardobe staples include an array of shift dresses, blouses, fitted skirts and seriously sharp heels. Oh and not to mention a sweep of blood red lipstick.
So are you guys as excited as I am for the new season?
Which member of the Clone Club is your favourite?
p.s. if you’ve never watched this it’s Seasons 1 and 2 are on Netflix guys ;) go forth and flail!
