Am about to getting pretty personal up in here….

“…solitude matters and that for some people it is the air that they breathe.”

    – Susan Cain, TED Talks: The Power of Introverts

Starting anything new can be terrifying for an introvert like me. I’m fine with being sociable, I’m fine with making friends, and I love meeting new people but sometimes I need to take a step back, breathe and have some time alone. Have felt like this with Uni recently and though I love the atmosphere of being a student again, there’s so much pressure to be social within the first few weeks of term that it can feel a little overwhelming sometimes.
I found this talk a few weeks ago by Susan Cain about Introversion and I honestly wish I could’ve had heard her speak about this growing up. Over the past few years I’ve come to terms with being ok with needing to be alone, that I need to have some time go myself to even function and that it’s actually a good thing. It can get frustrating sometimes that some people haven’t come to terms with this part of my personality as much as I have, but I’m lucky to have a good set of friends and family who do just ‘get it’.
I’ve embedded Susan’s TED video below if you’re interested. She’s a wonderful speaker, but is also an introvert herself – have also just started reading her book, Quiet, which is also brilliant so far!

  • Paris Fashion Week | Favourites SS14 Collections

The end of the SS14 season ended in spectacular style in Paris this past week. The city played host to some of my favourite designers so it’s safe to say narrowing the week’s worth of collections to a top five list! But here we are, check out the last of my fashion week faves for this season…
    Miu-Miu-SS14
Miu Miu | This collection was actually one of the last to show at Paris and helped close out their fashion week in spectacular style. With all the cotton candy peacoats, mary-janes and knee length twee skirts you’d be fooled in thinking that the collection had a rather childish quality about it. A look deeper reveals a wonderfully wacky seasons for the label, with prints and colours slightly off for all the right reasons and a little bit like stepping into the world of Wonka’s chocolate factory – oh so demented on the surface but bubbling underneath is a genius. I’m personally lusting after the peter pan collar coats and the dresses adorned with showgirl-esque beaded embellishments.

Who should be wearing this collection? Hailee Steinfeld, Zooey Deschanel, Kirsten Dunst, Dianna Agron, Amanda Seyfried, Kerinan Shipka

    Valentino-SS14
Valentino | Richly detailed with splashes of inspiration herded from all across the Globe, Valentino’s SS14 was a feast for the senses. Set against the backdrop of dark, gemstone colours pieces had hints of Egyptian, Moroccan, and Grecian styles woven together to create a simply stunning show. The Tudor-styled hairstyles and natural but stern make-up looks only transport the looks towards a more classical era, which isn’t surprising when you consider Valentino’s starting point for this season was the Opera.
Who should be wearing this collection? Florence Welch, Sarah Jessica Parker, Anne Hathaway, Frieda Pinto, Olivia Wilde
    Chloe-SS14
Chloé | The Chloe woman was much more free flowing compared to previous collections. The dresses were softer, trousers baggier, and even blouses were crafted from flowing fabrics. A tougher colour palette of khaki greens, navy blues and dark neutrals plus leather textures gave this collection a little bit of an edge.
Who should be wearing this collection? Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara, Chloe Sevigny, Shailene Woodley, Jessica Alba, Lucy Lui
    Stella-McCartney-SS14
Stella McCartney | Moving a little way from the minimalist sport lux looks of seasons past, this collection from Stella was much more luxurious and seductive. The active element is still there with her jackets, billowing trousers and jumpsuits, models also adopted a slick and chic beauty look for this season. The end of the collection is full of brocade print, metallic minis and slip-like dresses with hints of skin.
Who should be wearing this collection? Miranda Kerr, Kristen Stewart, Gwyneth Paltrow, Marion Cotillard, Zoe Saldana, Emma Watson
    Chanel-SS14-1 Chanel-SS14-2
Chanel | Finally my blog’s namesake and Lagerfeld pulled out all the stops with this one. Chanel’s seasons was interlaced with artwork and generous splashes of Summer colour. Signature pieces, such as the tweed jacket, were presented in candy pastels; striking monochrome and neutral; and hot shades of pink and purple patchwork. The stunning finale pieces were a riot of rainbows and technicolour in classic Chanel cuts. Nothing is simple about this collection, everything is executed with precision with fraying, beading, cut out lace, and structured detailing laced throughout the collection. There’s really something for everyone here, but I have a feeling that many of the pieces will require someone with a fearless personality to carry them off – hence the list below!
Who should be wearing this collection? Paloma Faith, Chloe Moretz, Emma Stone, Diane Kruger, Coco Rocha, Holland Roden
So that’s all folks! Make sure you check out my New York, London and Milan Fashion Week favourites too and keep an eye out for some runway inspired posts coming the next few weeks.

Finally getting round to this! Thought I’d share the latest issue of Aesthetic, a quarterly magazine, founded by and featuring the work of some of my favourite bloggers from around the Interwebs!
The first thing that stands out to me about Aesthetic is the aesthetic (har de har…ahem). Full of gorgeous illustrations, plenty of beauty bits to add to my ever-growing wishlist, stunning fashion spreads, all wrapped up in a pretty, pastel coloured bow. The magazine is also full of fabulously well-written and well thought out features on topics such as films, books, food, and culture. Not to mention the standout articles on careers in PR; working freelance, anxiety and social media; and nostalgic retrospective on holidays.
Issue 4 is still being sold online here if you’d like have a gander yourself, catch it while you can!
