  • Runway Spotlight | Fairytale Romance at Valentino Couture S14

Valentino Couture S14 details Valentino Couture S14 gowns Valentino Couture S14 tulle
    Valentino Couture S14 minimalist gowns
We may be in the swing of fashion week season but there’s one collection that I can’t stop thinking about.
Rich with earthy, woodland tones, the Valentino Couture offering felt more Autumnal than Spring. As always the collection was rife with drama, not surprising as designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli drew inspiration from 55 classic operas. One of my favourite pieces – already worn by Katy Perry – was embroidered with Verdi’s La Traviata score and others influenced by the characters from others such as La Boheme and Carmen. There was an abundance of ballerina tulle, topped off with intricate embroidered imagery taken from nature, and delicate lace.
Though the more detailed and opulent pieces were certainly the stars of the show, there’s always a place in my heart for the simple minimalist gowns too.

Thoughts on Valentino? What were your favourite pieces from the collection?
  • Loving Her Was Red | Taylor Swift Red Tour Style Inspiration

    Taylor-Swift-tour-header
In honour of the fact I’m seeing the one and only Taylor Swift in London on Tuesday – excited Ria is excited!! -, I thought I’d take a quick peek at her tour wardrobe and gather up some sartorial inspiration that you can take away with you…

The style aesthetic for Taylor’s International Red Tour has been one of her most diverse yet. She’s donned everything from her trademark princess dresses embellished in sparkles and glitter, to casual shorts/blouse combos, to the fabulous theatrical pieces like her marching band and ‘I knew your were trouble’ playsuit looks.

Chiffon Dress, ASOS | Sparkle Spot Tights, ASOS | Red Brogues, Aldo | Two-tone Blouse, Vera Moda | High-Waisted Shorts, H&M | Striped Crop Top, Topshop | Lace Playsuit, MissGuided | ‘Game Changer’ lipgloss, Bare Minerals | Printed Skater Skirt, Delias | Panama Hat, Urban Outfitters

To get the look stick to preppy basics, and the simple black, white and – of course, red colour scheme, and accessories like sequin tights, comfy brogues and menswear headgear. For evening glamour, grab some lace and plenty of gold. And of course, don’t forget that red lippie to top the whole outfit off!

  • Northern Downpour | Inspiration from Copenhagen Fashion Week

Copenhagen Fashion Week doesn’t get as much press as it’s bigger name counterparts, but the collections that showcase there definitely deserve as much love. As the city plays host to the Nordic Region’s largest fashion events, there’s such a huge variety of styles shown over its duration. However one thing present in all of the collections is a the region’s unique take on design.
Above are four of my favourite collections from the A/W14 season and as always the use of layering, marriage of menswear and ladylike cuts, and strikingly simple but ‘forever classic’ pieces are what makes the looks during Copenhagen Fashion Week some of the most translatable designer collections to wear.
If you want to get on board with the trends from the shows early – and why wouldn’t you, with the weather the state it is at the moment! – , I’ve picked out a couple of my favourites from here, there and everywhere to help you get on your way.

    Copenhagan FW AW14 style guide
Look out for oversized knits, structured boyfriend coats, leather detailing, rustic toned footwear, menswear tailoring, dark earthy hues but accompanied by occasional pop of colour.
Thoughts on Copenhagen Fashion Week? Is it on par with it’s big flashy counterparts?
