  • Screen Actors Guild Awards 2013 | Red carpet fashion round up

After a mini week break I’m back and reporting on the red carpet looks from the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards. I was again pleasantly surprised with many of the looks at this event and have highlighted some of the best and not-so-fab looks of the night.

    Marion Cottilard Jennifer Garner
Best dressed for me came from someone who usually just manages to slip by as a well done and I certainly must have a thing for big princess gowns at the moment considering who my favourite at the Globes was. Marion Cotillard looked stunning in a navy and white Pre-Fall 2013 Christian Dior gown, the whole look was perfectly styled from her diamond necklace, pointed pumps and sleek bob cut. She looked the epitome of Parisian chic to me.  I deliberated this next spot but Jennifer Garner was the close second on the night in a glittering gold Oscar De La Renta gown, with lightly styled waves she was proof was sometimes less is more when it comes to looking great.
Jennifer Lawrence Nicole Kidman Amanda Seyfried
It seems like navy blue was the unofficial dress code on the night with three of the award’s biggest stars turning up in the same shade. Jennifer Lawrence greatly improved on her Globes look in a beautiful Christian Dior down…only for it to wardrobe malfunction whilst recieving her award! Oops! Nicole Kidman seems to be on a winning streak at the moment and really caught my eye in an embellished and embroidered Vivienne Westwood gown. And finally Amanda Seyfried opted for a fishtail Zac Posen look with sleek Hollywood hair.
    Ariel Winter Keirnan Shipka
Tween Hollywood definitely gaves some of the veterans a run for their money. Ariel Winter once again looked utterly grown up in a very pretty Alex Perry gown with embroidered floral details along her shoulders and down the dress. Emma-Watson-a-like and Mad Men ministar Keirnan Shipka wore an enchanting little Oscar De La Renta tea dress. She’s slowly taking Chloe Moretz spot of best dressed blonde starlet in my heart and has amazing poise for one so young.

    Jayma Mays Naya Rivera
The Glee contigent were out in force on the night with pretty much all of the main cast, plus some newbies out on the red carpet (sans Dianna Agron *sobs*). Best dressed from the group for me was actually Jayma Mays. Jayma usually blends behind the likes of Naya and Lea but she really shone in a white Georges Hobeika gown – feeling a little inspired by your wedding storyline Jayma? Second was the infinitely fierce Naya Rivera, her Donna Karen gown was actually one of the first I spotted at the event and it’s totally Naya. Sleek, sexy with vintage inspired hair!
A surprising let down from Lea Michelle, her Valentino gown is beautiful, but with the styling and compared to the other ladies on the night she was kinda okay (her lovely date Corey Monteith on the other hand looked very handsome). Looks like neither Lea or her Glee alter-ego aren’t in my good books at the moment. Jenna Ushkowitz was another one who was a miss for me. I had hope she’d step up to the plate as one of the show’s new lead stars but her gothic inspired Rebecca Minkoff gown and Michelle-a-like hair was not good. Hope came in the form of two actresses who’s characters are like rays of sunshine on the show. Heather Morris really improved this year in a beautifully detailed Gomez-Garcia gown and newbie Vanessa Lengies wore one of my favourite Marchesa gowns.
    Jessica Chastin Kelly Osbourne
Two ladies who improved upon their Globes looks were Jessica Chastin and Kelly Osbourne. Jessica went back to her failsafe Alexander McQueen mix and look fabulous for it – who says red heads can’t pull of red gowns?! Despite my urge to dye the whole of Kelly Osbourne’s hair to something remotely normal looking I actually didn’t mind her Jenny Packham gown, had her hair been less grey-purple I may be more impressed.
    Anne Hathaway January Jones
It always makes me sad to see actresses who are so usually on point with their style fall flat at these events. Which is why is pains me so to put Anne Hathaway and January Jones so low on my list. After an impressive Globes look Anne simply melted into the background in her Giambattisa Valli Couture gown, she looks beautiful, the gown is beautiful but she just didn’t shine as much as her Chanel look from a few weeks ago. Fingers crossed for better BAFTAs/Oscar looks!
Maybe it’s the pressure of playing such a stylish character but I really wasn’t a fan of January’s Prabal Gurung look. The styling was odd and so was her hair, which is a shame as I’m usually fawning hard over this designer’s gowns.

    Michelle Dockery Nina Dobrev

Not wanting to end this on a negative note! Michelle Dockery is slowly becoming the rising star of this year’s awards show season. She looked amazing in a Chado Ralph Rucci gown, with its sheer side panelling, minimal style and side swept hair, her whole look is subtley sexy and rather refined. Nina Dobrev brought out some colour at the ceremony is an Elie Saab gown in hot pink. Again the key to this winning look is simplicity, with only her small glittering jewels and clutch, Nina lets the dress do the talking.

So, favourite looks? Any I missed? Let me know!

  • Golden Globe Awards 2013 | Red Carpet Round Up | Part 2

Part two of my Golden Globe Awards red carpet round up!

    Emily Blunt & Nicole Kidman
Emily Blunt embraced the spirit of the Golden Globes in a gorgeous, golden Michael Kors gown. Between the cut out panelling, the sleek up-do and the pop of colour from her earrings this is a really great look for her.
The next look came as a surprise. Who are you and what have you done with Nicole Kidman? My jaw hit the floor when I saw Nicole in her Alexander McQueen gown. Yes it’s black but the detailing under the bust and the neckline keep my interest and I love the styling here.
A trio of ladies in the ‘No, must do better’ pile for me next. Kelly Osbourne wore a in pale green Zac Posen gown which itself is ok, but matched with the god-awful un-matchable hair colour she has at the moment. For someone who’s supposedly a member of the fashion police, she’s not living up to her sartorial reputation of late.
After looking quite lovely at the PCA’s Kaley Cuoco ruined a perfectly good look with just one swipe of a lipstick. Unlike Julianne Hough her Zuhair Murad gown is totally overshadowed by her dark/gothic make-up – had this been paired with Taylor Swift’s gown I may have given it a pass. Bad move Kaley.
And finally Halle Berry in a tropical print Atelier Versace gown. While I’ll applaud her efforts to bring some colour, her whole look is seriously outdated at the moment. I don’t think I’ve seen anything different, from styling to hair to make up, from her since the early 2000’s.

As always there are some women who just keep looking fabulous no matter what their age. Helen Mirren was a knock out, as always, in a sleek black Badgley Mischka gown with gold detailing. It’s actually a very similar design to Emily Blunt’s but minus the panelling, but she looks just as amazing.
Veteran actress Sally Field looked wonderfully elegant in a dark navy Alberta Ferretti gown adorned with diamond jewels. Simple styling is key to making this look beautiful.

    Taylor Swift *& Ariel Winter
Taylor Swift pulls another one out of the bag in a dark Donna Karen gown. I adore this colour on Taylor and the subtle hint a skin with the dark panel running up the thigh, this probably the most mature look we’ve seen on her and it’s wonderful seeing her branch out from her usual bejewelled gowns and red lips.
On the flipside is the beautifully bubbly Ariel Winter. She wore a brightly patterned Valentino mini, with a full skirt. Event and age appropriate, Ariel both looks so grown up yet never too old for her age.
After three years of reigning supreme on the Golden Globe red carpet the cast of Glee seemed greatly diminished this year – judging by their instagrams most of them had hit the ski slopes instead lol. With my style queen Dianna Agron noticeably absent my faith was resting on one Lea Michelle to rep my babies at the event. She definitely delivered stunning embellished white Elie Saab gown with emerald jewels, my only gripe? Has Rachel Berry gone a bit spray tan crazy because Lea looks a little on the orange side here…hmmm
I’ll count her just because I’m running low on McKinley cast members, but Kate Hudson also attended the event wearing a high neck keyhole gown by Alexander McQueen. I actually really love this look but just wish she’d have pulled back her hair a little so we can see that gorgeous shoulder detailing too!

A high profile event like this wouldn’t be complete without a couple of diva-ish looks would it? Heidi Klum went all out model in a blinding white gown by Alexandre Vauthier with a thigh high split.
Then Ms Jenny-from-the-block herself, Jennifer Lopez arrived in a skin tight nude gown by Zuhair Murad, with lace detailing to cover her modesty.

    Katharine McPhee & Claire Danes

Katharine McPhee certainly has put her wholesome American Idol days and is embracing her inner Marilyn sex goddess in daring Theyskens’ Theory gown, complete with plunging neckline and thigh high split. It’s sleek, it’s fashion forward and totally hot.
Clare Danes also went for a red hot look in a simple Atelier Versace gown with loose hair, love the draping on the gown.

Anne Hathaway’s Les Mis co-star, Amanda Seyfried, also went for a pure white look in a white lace Givenchy dress. The detailing is so subtle but makes for a wonderfully put together gown.
Naomi Watts went for darker shade in a deep burgundy body con gown by Zac Posen with keyhole detailing around the bust and a simple retro updo.

Adding some pops of colour to the red carpet crowds were Rosario Dawson and Marion Cotillard. Rosario went for a sky blue Antonio Beradi dress with ever the popular peplum detailing, they way this hugs her latina figure is amazing.
In true artisan style Marion went for an unpredictable orange dress from Christian Dior with slicked back hair. Matching pumps and barely there make up style up what could’ve been a rather dull look.

It was all about taking risks for the next two actresses. Kerry Washington, like Rachel Weisz, went for a sheer midi dress, this time in nude Miu Miu with embroidery and embellishment detailing. This look suits her to a ‘t’ and is well paired with her nude pumps.
Olivia Munn went for a rather relaxed Georgio Armani gown with a patterned top and sleek black hair.
    Jodie Foster
    Jodie Foster 1 2
Woman of the night, Jodie Foster, debuted a ‘Wintour’-inspired blunt bob with a blue hued Georgio Armani gown. But what really got my attention was her pure confidence as she stood up on that podium declaring she was here loud and proud. Bravo Ms Foster!

What were your favourite looks at the event? Are there any looks you weren’t as keen on?

  • Golden Globe Awards 2013 | Red Carpet Round Up | Part 1

This year’s Annual Golden Globe Awards were showcase last Sunday and I have to be honest, I think this is the best dressed year so far.
Hands down the best dressed at the event came from a surprising contender. Lucy Liu completely blew me away in a Summer-y floral print Carolina Herrera ballgown. I can imagine this look is set be a divider (most likely for the ‘out-there’ print but with a beach-y fishtail plait, barely there make up and an attitude exuding confidence (and fun!) she flat rolled the competition for me.
A very close second, and a very different look, was the ever amazing Anne Hathaway. The Les Mis actress wore a beautiful minimalistic Chanel gown, with tiny embellishments and peplum detail. She looked positively angelic!

A tale of two red dresses here. I sat on the fence about Jennifer Lawrence‘s red Christian Dior Haute Couture gown before deciding it was merely passable. I’ll admit she looked amazing, but compared to some of the more dramatic looks of the night I’m left wishing she pushed for something a little different. Though I do love her styling, let’s hope she go all out for the Oscars in a few weeks. Zooey Deschanel really captured my heart in her stunning Oscar De La Renta ballgown. I don’t know what it is but this look stands out ahead of Jennifer’s for me. Maybe it’s the vintage pearls or Audrey Hepburn styling…most likely it’s her nail art. But either way, thumbs up from me Zooey!
Highly dramatic and golden looks from the next two ladies. Michelle Dockery looked truly beautiful in her Alexandre Vauthier gown, with a golden high neckline, like a modern day Elizabethan noble, in a good way of course! Julianne Hough seems to be on a roll at the moment and attended the event in a stunning tulle gown by Monique Lhuillier. She could’ve easily pulled off a very princess-y look with this but went for edgier styling with her quiff and smoky eyes.

    Tina Fey & Amy Poehler

Our esteemed hosts for the evening were Tina Fey and Amy Poehler and both forwent the typical Hollywood gown. Tina looked fabulous in a custom L’Wren Scott midi dress with lace detailing and black pumps, much improved from last year’s season, let’s hope she keeps this up! Amy pulled a complete 180 from previous years, opting for the only suit on the red carpet. Her sleek black Stella McCartney two piece was certainly eye catching and accompanied by flawless hair and make up.

Amy Adams & Jessica AlbaIsla Fischer Megan Fox & Hayden Panettiere

Were all these actresses on some sort of conference call or something? Nude and peach seemed to be the most popular theme of the night with all 5 of these ladies opting for the neutral shade. Amy Adams styled up her Marchesa fishtail gown with vintage hair, I actually love the tulle on the end of the gown; Jessica Alba went for coral Oscar De La Renta ensemble, complete with matching lips and feathered clutch; Isla Fischer went embellished in a Reem Acra gown; Megan Fox turned to her signature look in her Dolce & Gabbana dress, with added sex appeal; and finally Hayden Panetierre in a similar looking dress to Amy this time by Roberto Cavalli accompanied by hot pink accessories.

    Jessica Chastain & Rachel Weisz

In a sea of just wonderful looks, there had to be a few that slipped through the net. Two women who really disappointed were Jessica Chastain and Rachel Weisz. Oh Jessica, I do believe I pronounced you one of the best dressed at the Golden Globes last year! There’s no doubt Jessica looks amazing and the Calvin Klein dress had potential too look just as good, but I just want to grab the halterneck of the gown and hoist it up properly. It simply looks ill-fitted which is a shame because she was one of my ones to watch out for this year.
When you know you’re guaranteed James Bond himself as your arm candy, surely you’re going to try to channel you inner Bond girl and really pull out the stops for your red carpet look. Well, Rachel tried. But her polka-dotted Louis Vuitton ensemble was somewhat of a disaster. Toeing the line between slightly girly and slighly edgy and a little vintage, the whole thing felt a little mismatched (sorry Rachel, still love you!)

    Adele & Kristen Bell

Obviously I don’t want to end this part chastising two of my favourites to watch on the red carpet bomb at this event. So here’s two gorgeous mothers/mum-to-be who’s, Adele and Kristen Bell. Adele stuck deep into her comfort zone black Burberry dress, though I adore her up-do and make up here. Kristen also went for a British designer, Jenny Packham. The gorgeous lilac gown with bejewelled neckline showed off Kristen’s ever growing bump (also worth noting this is actually the gown showcased in Harrod’s modern Disney Princess designs).

    Stay tuned for part 2!
