  • Red Carpet Fashion Round Up | Teen Choice Awards 2014

I wasn’t planning on doing a round-up of this past weekend’s Teen Choice Awards, but then I saw photos of Taylor Swift on Instagram and one thing lead to another and I ended up scrolling through my entire feed to check up on who was there.

Check out all my favourites from the night below…

    TCAs14-Taylor-Swift
Best Dressed Award | Taylor Swift in Novis
The sole reason I started on my spiral down to hunt down the red carpet photos from the night, Taylor Swift, once again knocked it out of the park for me in this Summer-y Novis two piece. The lady like tweed of the crop top and skirt are given an edgy update thanks to the light green shade, graphic panelling and Taylor colourful accessories. Add this to her now midi-bob cut and pretty pink make up look, and you’ve got a winning formula!

    TCAs14-Chloe-Grace-Moretz
Top Crop Top Award | Chloe Moretz in Valentino
Crop tops have become quite the red carpet staple as of late, but I love Chloe’s take on the trend. Sporting a seriously stylish Valentino shorts and jacket combo over the top of her teeny black crop top, this outfit is made for a semi-formal event like the TCAs.

    TCAs14-Shailene-Woodley
The Ready For The New Season Award | Shailene Woodley in Peter Pilotto
Whilst many of the attendees opted for looks to match the Cali-sunshine, Shailene Woodley stepped out in something a little darker and more brooding for the event. Shai went for one of her favourite designers, Peter Pilotto, and this ultra graphic tribal print dress, striped with bold Autumn oranges and cool electric blues. This may be a ‘Fall’ ensemble but it was a bold enough choice to stand out from the crowd for me.

    TCAs14-Selena-Gomez-Demi-Lovato
The Gettin’ Down To Business Award | Selena Gomez in Saint Laurent & Demi Lovato in Elizabetta Franchi
Now here’s two ladies who look awfully grown up and a million miles away from their former Disney days. Selena and Demi both opted for super sleek and chic looks on the night. Selena suited up in a head-to-toe Saint Laurent ensemble, complete with slicked back ponytail and sharp pointed pumps. Demi debuted her lighter ombre-d bob cut on the night and went for a lighter white, Elizabetta Franchi, mini dress with it’s plunge neckline and subtle paneling it gave off the illusion of a fitted suit jacket.

    TCAs14-Nina-Dobrev
Metallic Marvel Award | Nina Dobrev in Vionnet
Nina Dobrev positively shimmered onto the TCA red carpet in this gorgeous metallic two-piece. I’m absolutely taken by the colour combos in this outfit, the pinks, purples and golden shades just mesh so well together. Paired with her smokey eye make-up and messy braid the whole look is quite amazing.

    TCAs14-Lea-Michele
The Sultry & Summer-y Award | Lea Michele in Fausto Puglisi
Lea Michele looks like she’s about to party it up poolside in Miami in this sassy little Fausto Puglisi number. The bold graphic design and metallic sandals are literally all she needs to stand out from the TCA crowd. Not to mention she is positively glowing and is definitely rocking the messy bed head hair.

    TCAs14-Jordin-Sparks
Best Use Of Print Award | Jordin Sparks in Simply Intricate
Another bright and colourful look from the night, Jordin Sparks brought a little tropical flavour to the event in this Simple Intricate two-piece. Not everyone can pull off a bralet and parachute pants, but gosh am I loving this on her. She paired up the ensemble with simple black sandals and a fresh faced make up look.

    TCAs14-Victoria-Justice
The Easy-Breezy Boho Award | Victoria Justice in Rebecca Minkoff
Finally a beautifully laid back look from Victoria Justice. She stepped onto the red carpet in this white lacey number, complete with metallic pumps. I adore how chill this outfit is, especially when paired with her half updo hair and sunkissed make-up. Then there’s her stunning Swarovski clutch with contrasting blue jewels which is the perfect finishing touch!

What were some of your favourite looks from the night?

  • Red Carpet Fashion Round Up | Met Gala 2014

It’s the one event – bar the Oscars – that gets the fashion pack really excited! This year’s Met Gala, held at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, was one of the most star studded in recent years and the theme of the evening, ‘white tie and diamonds’ in tribute to the designer Charles James, was sure to inspire some of the most glamourous red carpet looks since this year’s Oscars. For me it was a night of hits and misses, mainly for the lack of adherence to this year’s theme, which was a shame because if there was any excuse for sumptuous amounts of satin, tulle and ol’ school Hollywood glamour, a night celebrating Charles James would’ve been it! No matter! There was still plenty to fawn over. Here are my favourite looks from the night…

    MetGala14-Sarah Jessica Parker
Best Tribute to Charles Award | Sarah Jessica Parker
Out of everyone at the event, there’s only one lady who managed to hit the theme right on the head. Sarah Jessica Parker sashayed her way onto the red carpet in a stunning monochrome Oscar De La Renta gown. The whole ensemble, from the gloves, to the satin to the impressive updo and hair accessories became the perfect tribute to Charles – the bodice itself even looks like one of the gowns on exhibition – whilst also still maintaining much of SJP’s quirk and personality.
    MetGala14-Blake Lively
The ‘Took My Breath Away’ Award | Blake Lively
I’ve been missing Blake on the red carpet recently, so I think it’s safe to say when I saw the first few photos of her in this absolute stunner of a Gucci Premiere gown, my jaw dropped to the floor. Beautifully embellished, with a soft draping train and accompanied by some killer crimson and rose gold accessories, this gown looks like it was made to for Blake and I still can’t quite get over how well it fits too. Add in super glossy blonde waves, pinned old Hollywood style and pretty yet subtly pink make-up, and the effect is quite spectacular.
    MetGala14-Liu Wen
Most Dramatic Entrance | Liu Wen
Giving SJP a run for her money in terms of theme interpretation, Liu Wen wore this incredible seafoam green Zac Posen gown on the night. The entire look feels as though it was lifted from one of James’ collections and I love the Grace-Kelly-esque styling, especially the dramatic red lip.
    MetGala14-Karolina Kurkova
Best Runway to Red Carpet Award | Karolina Kurkova
One of the most dramatic looks of the evening came from statuesque model Karolina Kurkova. Wearing one of my all time favourite Monique Lhuillier gowns, not only is the design simply breathtaking but I’m oh so impressed that it has has been perfectly translated from the runway. There’s always a risk with an origami-like structure like this that the shape falls flat – after all these ladies have to sit in town cars in these creations! – but I’m so happy this turned out looking just as amazing.
    MetGala14-Suki Waterhouse
Best of Burberry Award | Suki Waterhouse
There was a distinct lack of my favourite design house at the Gala, but luckily model of the moment Suki Waterhouse snapped up this beautiful, blush pink, Burberry gown to wear on the night. The two tone effect of all the tulle, dark crimson lips and slightly disheveled updo, give the look a bit of edge whilst also paying tribute to James’ use of this fabric in his designs.
    MetGala14-Bee Shaffer
Following Anna’s Stylish Footsteps Award | Bee Shaffer
Being the daughter of the most formidable and influential woman in fashion definitely has its perks. Bee Shaffer got to walk down the Met Gala red carpet in a beautiful custom made Alexander McQueen gown, and some seriously beautiful jewelry. Her little Cinderella moment is such a fitting tribute to the silk artistry of Charles James’ work but with the added twist of signature McQueen tulle and draping.
    MetGala14-Dita Von Teese
Best Designer/Celeb Match Award | Dita Von Teese
Despite it being an event celebrating the work of Charles James, it was many of Zac Posen’s creations that really shone on the night. My favourite look presented was worn by the ever vivacious Dita Von Teese. The mermaid silhouette is oh so flattering on her and I love the cream and red colour combination on the gown and her accessories.
    MetGala14-Alexa Chung
The ‘On Theme’ In Her Own Awesome Way Award | Alexa Chung
Compared to the other ladies on the red carpet, you’d be mistaken for thinking Alexa Chung thought twice about making an effort for the night and to that I argue back with a big NOPE. Alexa’s never one to follow the rules of the fashion pack when it comes to something as formal as the Met Gala, but she’s paid her own tribute to the theme in this Nina Ricci number. The silhouette and draping is actually very much on point with some of James’ designs, but Alexa goes her own way with the styling with a messy curls and embellished pointed pumps.
    MetGala14-Lea Michele
Golden Girl Award | Lea Michele
Hot off the back of wrapping Glee season 5, Lea Michele, walked the red carpet on the night in a glittering golden Altuzuarra dress. The match-y/match-y nature of the whole look is perhaps a bit too much, maybe a hint of emerald green or ruby red in the jewelry would’ve helped, but nevertheless she looks amazing here and it’s lovely to see her loosely hair swept up for the look.
    MetGala14-Taylor Swift
Pretty in Pink Award | Taylor Swift
Taylor was quite a vision in her blush pink Oscar De La Renta gown. This theme is right up her street so I wasn’t surprised when she knocked it out of the park, again. The beauty is in the detail of the gown and it’s golden applique, plus the back of the dress and train are divine. Plus hey, her adorable bob cut, styled in retro-inspired waves and signature red lip as well.
    MetGala14-Karlie Kloss
The Modern Day Debutante Award | Karlie Kloss
In a stark contrast to BFF Taylor Swift’s gown, Karlie went for an altogether baroque-esque black and gold Oscar De La Renta gown. The black leather gloves could’ve easily pushed this into punk territory, but Karlie kept the rest of the styling retro inspired with a simple side-swept updo and delicate diamond encrusted jewelry pieces.
    MetGala14-Hailee Steinfeld
Best ‘On Theme’ Minimalist | Hailee Steinfeld
Young Hollywood star Hailee beamed her way up the red carpet on the night and she had legit reasons to be smiling. Her monochrome Prabal Gurung, gown was one of my personal highlights of the night and thought it was a rather elegant yet edgy take on the evening’s theme. I’m always about the little details, but I really do adore the cut of the back of the dress and the way it sweeps into the skirt.
    MetGala14-Lupita N'yong'o
Most Avante Garde Award | Lupita N’yong’o
I’m sure the world was waiting with baited breathe for this little lady to turn up to the Gala and when she did she turned more than a few heads. Sporting a flapper inspired green netted, feathered and beaded dress and matching green accessories, including an emerald headband, Lupita’s Prada ensemble was one of the most left-field choices of the night. After the initial shock factor, the more and more I look at this, the more I find myself falling for the all the details. Sure, it’s not quite on theme, but it’s a whole lot of fun and Lupita looks like she’s having a whale of a time too!
    MetGala14-Power Couples
The Ultimate Power Couples Award | Emma Stone & Andrew Garfield, Beyonce & Jay Z, Diane Kruger & Joshua Jackson
Couples were everywhere at the Gala but the couples that share this three-way tie award showcased some of the best his/her styling I’ve seen in a long time. My favourite Spidey-duo, Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield have already had an impressive run of looks during their promotional tour and their stylish streak is in no way slowing down. Emma went for a very summer-y two piece Thakoon crop top and draped skirt, with Andrew subtly co-ordinating with her silver accessories in a rather sharp Band of Outsiders suit jacket. Of course, stealing the show when they turned up, the Carters aka Beyonce and Jay Z were also on form on the night. Beyonce went for a rather gothic Givenchy Couture number, the beaded details also compliment the beaded veil she also wore. Jay Z was a stark contrast, looking very suave in a white tux and bow tie combo. And finally Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson, both in rather minimalist looking Hugo Boss looks. Again, the subtle hints to Charles James collections are obvious and they compliment each other’s looks marvelously!

And that’s a wrap of some of my favourites! Let me know which looks you rated in the comments!

  • Oscars 2014 | Red Carpet Fashion Round Up – Part 2

Welcome to part 2 of my Oscar red carpet wrap up! Check out more of my favourites from the night below…
    Oscars14-Charlize Theron
The ‘Now THAT’S how you work a Dior gown’ Award | Charlize Theron
Despite JLaw’s efforts to wow us as the brand ambassador this season, Charlize knocked one out of the park in this show stopping Dior gown. The clear straps give the illusion of a dramatic plunging gown and paired with the almost faux mermaid skirt, Charlize looked rather spectacular walking down the red carpet in it. A simple silver pendant necklace and slicked back hair was all that was needed to complete this look! Oscars14-Emma Watson
The ‘Elegant yet edgy’ Award | Emma Watson
Emma was a pleasant surprise at the ceremony! Wearing a charcoal grey and black Vera Wang gown, she put a little edgy spin to her look with a messy half updo, bold red lipstick and silver accessories. Despite the unkempt nature of the look, I still think it’s event appropriate (as she was only there to present) and it’s nice to Emma in something a little less polished than usual.  Oscars14-Portia De Rossi
Most Classy Cut-Outs | Portia de Rossi
Ellen Degeneres may have been winning over the audience as the host for the evening, but her wife Portia was definitely winning me over with his detailed Naeem Khan gown. Had this been a simple, opaque beige gown, she most certainly would’ve blended into the backdrop. But those intricate cutout details are quite exquisite.    Oscars14-Penelope Cruz
Arabian Princess Award | Penelope Cruz
Swathed pale pink, Penelope Cruz, looked positively radiant in this Giambattista Valli gown. The off the shoulder detail is something really different, yet she exudes old school Hollywood glamour with her sleek updo and delicate earrings.      Oscars14-Gabourey Sidibe
Best Use of Colour Award | Gabourey Sidibe
Amongst the neutral tones of the evening, Gabourey provide a welcome infusion of Spring colour in her fuchsia Theia gown. Almost completely covered in floral embellishments, for me this was one of the most exciting looks of the evening.  Oscars14-Kerry Washington
Best Hair & Make Up Award | Kerry Washington
Mum-to-be Kerry sported a rather modest purple Jason Wu gown but it’s the deep berry shades of her make up and her softly curled hair that really caught my attention. It’s not all out dramatic but when you’re working a dress that’s very simple, it’s the extra little details that really count.    Oscars14-Anne Hathaway
The Gorgeous Glitterball Award | Anne Hathaway
Anne was one of the stars of last year’s awards season and even though she was taking a back seat for this year’s, she still looked amazing in this column Gucci gown. The obvious standout feature of the look is the mirrored bodice, which shimmered in the L.A. sun. It would be very easy to overdress a gown like this with excessively edgy accessories but Anne managed to get the balance right with a softer touch to her cropped hair and dainty jewelry.    Oscars14-Angelina Jolie
Best Elie Saab Award | Angelina Jolie
There was a distinct lack of my favourite red carpet designer on the red carpet this year, nevertheless Angelina seemed to hear my cries for a little Elie Saab in this shimmering golden gown. This is a rather ethereal look for her, but I like the change!
So that’s all folks! Let me know what you thought of all the Oscar ceremony looks and remember to check out my Part 1 wrap up too!
