  • Oscars 2014 | Red Carpet Fashion Round Up – Part 1

    Oscars14-Lupita N'yong'o
Best Cinderella Moment Award | Lupita N’yong’o
Arriving off the back of what has been an impressively stylish award show season, there was much anticipation for the moment Lupita would walk the red carpet and she did not disappoint! Looking like a modern day Disney princess, Lupita wore a powder blue custom Prada gown with a dramatic plunging neckline and adorned with modest golden jewelry and headband, all of which looked simply breathtaking. And the best accessory she carried? Her well deserved Best Supporting Actress statuette!
    Oscars14-Jennifer Lawrence
The One More ‘Dior’ For The Road Award | Jennifer Lawrence
The Oscars will be the last outing for JLaw for while so I was ready and waiting for something big. In a sea of navy, black and nude gowns, Jennifer shone out like a bold red beacon in this strapless peplum gown. Once again this is Dior (though I do believe she wore Tom Ford for the after parties!) but it’s definitely more in line with the sleek minimalist style she’s been channeling this season. Do I wish she wore a something more dramatic like last year’s look? Perhaps, but at least she didn’t fall quite as hard in this one (and that was probably more due to her sky-high Brian Atwood heels than the gown this time!).
    Oscars14-Kristen Bell Idina Menzel
The ‘Are you sure you’re not Elsa & Anna?’ Award | Idina Menzel + Kristen Bell
The stars of Frozen, Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell walked the red carpet in outfits that could’ve looked at home on their animated counterparts. Idina went for a rich green strapless Vera Wang gown, with poker straight hair and some serious pout. Kristen wore a lighter and delicately embroidered Roberto Cavalli, with a glossy updo and pretty pink make up. Both ladies went for choker style necklaces and both looked stunning!
    Oscars14-Lady Gaga
The D.I.V.A (The Daring In Versace Award) | Lady Gaga
I’m not sure why Mama Monster was at the Oscars, but who the hell cares? Lady Gaga kept it surprisingly low key (well as low key as you can get if you’re Lady Gaga) in this figure hugging Versace gown. With a silky soft pink scarf thrown casually over her neck and off the back of her shoulders, Gaga walked the red carpet with confidence and her head held high!
    Oscars14-Kristin Chenoweth
Best Oscar Statuette Impression Award | Kristin Chenoweth
Mini singing superstar Kristin Chenoweth seemed to draw her inspiration from the little golden statuettes, in this strapless Roberto Cavalli number. I definitely in love with the structured bodice and her neat little bob hairdo she’s working at the moment. A bright and bubbly, just like her!
    Oscars14-Kate Hudson
Most Statuesque Look | Kate Hudson
Giving Gaga a run for her money at the ceremony Kate Hudson sauntered onto the red carpet in this magnificent Versace gown. With it’s mini cape and plunging neckline this gown is pretty much perfect on the very poised looking Kate.
    Oscars14-Sandra Bullock
The Velveteen McQueen | Sandra Bullock
Sandra looked effortlessly glamorous in a navy blue Alexander McQueen gown, styled with side swept curls and simple metallic accessories. The draping of the gown gives the effect of cascading of velvet and looks oh so classy.
    Oscars14-Anna Kendrick
Best Pops of Colour Award | Anna Kendrick
Anna was – literally – pulling out her best Angelina Jolie impression with this J Mendel gown. Though everyone else seemed to be concentrated on the thigh high split, I was checking out the little pops of red that surrounded the look. From the embroidered beading on the bodice to her matching red lips and of course her silky clutch, these small touches kept this from being just another black Oscar gown.
    Oscars14-Amy Adams
The ‘Deja-Vu, But Still A Beaut’ Award | Amy Adams
I commented on Twitter about how similar Amy’s look for the Oscars was to her Golden Globes ensemble. Nonetheless, this sleek and minimalist Gucci gown looks wonderful on Amy and I love the subtle hint of coral that’s coming through in her make up and jewelry.
Keep an eye out for Part 2 coming soon!

  • BAFTAs 2014 | Red Carpet Fashion Round Up

All eyes were on London yesterday evening with what seemed like half of Hollywood in town to celebrate the BAFTAs at the Royal Opera House. Thankfully the rain held off this year as the stars walked the red carpet and I was especially impressed with this year’s sartorial choices. Here are some of my favourites…

BAFTAs14-Lupita Nyong’oThe ‘Oops you did it again!’ Award | Lupita N’yong’o
With a certain American Hustle starlet noticeably absent from the ceremony, Lupita filled the Dior shaped gap on the red carpet in a full-length, green Dior Couture gown. Once again she definitely isn’t shying away from colour in this bold hue, not many people would’ve been able to pull this off but she wears it with much flair! A simple metallic belt and golden cuff-style bracelets set off this very elegant look.
    BAFTAs14-Sam Barks
The ‘Can you not with your everything’ Award | Samantha Barks
Appearing like an angelic apparition at the event, Sam Barks seemed to glide up the red carpet in this stunningly simple Calvin Klein gown. The creamy hue goes wonderfully with her olive skin tone and I adore the addition of the statement pearl necklaces. Beautiful look, beautiful woman. *le sigh*
    BAFTAs14-Sam Claflin Laura Haddock
The Best of Burberry Award | Sam Claflin & Laura Haddock
Sam and Laura for me were the best dressed couple of the evening, with both of them choosing to deck themselves head to toe in Burberry. Sam went for a very dapper navy suit and bowtie, whilst Laura went for a minimalist draped and backless gown.
    BAFTAs14-Amy Adams
The ‘Lady Is A Vamp’ Award | Amy Adams
Showing off her darker side, Amy, turned up at the event in a jet black Victoria Beckham gown. The dress itself is chock full of detail, from the simplicity of the column skirt to the sheer neckline set off with a subtle menswear inspired collar, and with an added berry hued lip colour, there’s very little I don’t love about this look. I love the diversity Amy’s bringing to the red carpet events this year, let’s hope her Oscar look is just as showstopping!
    BAFTAs14-Emma Thompson
The ‘Ravishing In Red’ Award | Emma Thompson
Emma is really having a ball this awards season! She been a little reserved in terms of colour so far, but that all changed when she stepped out in this Maria Grachvogel gown. The draping around the shoulders and waistline are oh so flattering, and felt very Vivienne Westwood. Before heading inside to warm up she also wore a spectacular fur collared, full-length white coat over the dress. Normally I’m not a great fan of outerwear covering up gorgeous gowns, but I kind of wish she kept it on for the whole ceremony. It’s such a dramatic look, I love it!
    BAFTAs14-Olga Kurylenko
The Shimmering Mermaid Award | Olga Kurylenko
I really didn’t mean for the title of this award to be insulting but it’s the first thing that popped into my head, because I really truly love Olga’s Burberry gown. There’s an elegant simplicity to the peek-a-boo bodice, before a dramatic lead into the embellished bronze coloured scaled skirt which all adds up to a great red carpet look.
    BAFTAs14-Naomie Harris
The Boldest Use Of Colour Award | Naomie Harris
Giving Lupita a run for her money for most daring use of colour on the red carpet, Naomie’s hot pink Gucci gown was certainly one of the most striking stars of the night. The low lapel neckline and contrasting black accents and accessories add an air of sophistication to the whole look.
    BAFTAs14-Brangelina
The Power Couple Award | Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie
There’s no doubt Brangelina were the stars of the night thanks to their coordinating outfit choices! Both Brad and Ange suited up in matching black tuxedos, Valentino and Saint Laurent respectively. In a sea of gowns and a mass of traditional looks during awards show season, Angelina certainly made her mark as one of the most memorable looks of the evening.
    BAFTAs14-Helen Mirren
The Queen of the Evening Award | Helen Mirren
Recipient of the BAFTA Fellowship award Helen Mirren, looked especially regal in a sequin and tulle Jacques Azagury gown. The entire look is brilliantly dramatic with its midnight blue colour, the embellished bodice, the addition of the bedazzling silver jewellery and the nice contrast with her red clutch and nails.
Let me know what you thought of the BAFTA’s fashion!

  • Red Carpet Fashion Round Up | Grammys 2014

The biggest night in music, the Grammy Awards, was held in L.A. yesterday evening. Though this year’s performances were the talk of the town – Beyonce & Jay Z, the Macklemore wedding ceremony, Pink on a trapeze and Daft Punk/Pharrell/Stevie Wonder mash-up! – my eyes were firmly pressed to the red carpet. Here are some of my highlights of the night…
Most Dramatic Entrance Award | Katy Perry
Embodying the full spirit of the Grammys, Katy Perry made quite the entrance on the red carpet wearing a spectacular Valentino Couture gown – straight off the Spring 2014 runway! With its tulle bodice and musical notes printed on the skirt, this was one of the gowns from the collection I was hoping would get worn at some point this year. Katy’s bold personality and purple jewelled accessories really pull the whole ensemble together for me! Bravo!
Marvellous Metallics Award | Taylor Swift
Shimmering her way onto the red carpet was the ever sartorially savvy Taylor Swift, wearing a bedazzling Gucci Premiere gown. I love how the gold and silver metallic details on the gown really capture the light so Taylor literally glitters as she moves.
    Grammys14-Anna Kendrick
The Unexpected Stunner Award | Anna Kendrick
Anna was a pleasant surprise at the event, wearing a lilac Azzaro gown and futuristic silver accessories. It was a perfect mix of timeless Hollywood style and modern tailoring and accents, and her hair and make-up is gorgeous!
    Grammys14-Ciara
Best Dress Baby Bump Award | Ciara
Mum-to-be Ciara was simply radiant in a golden Emilio Pucci gown. Despite its bodycon style, Ciara keeps the styling sophisticated and simple with loosely waved hair and bronzed make up.
    Grammys14-Kacey Musgraves
The Pretty In Pink Award | Kacey Musgraves
I hadn’t heard of Kacey before the Grammys, but she really stood out as one of the best dressed in her beautiful Armani Prive dress. Layers of tulle, side swept hair and subtle silver jewellery give of a modern day fairy-princess feel that is just enchanting to look at.
    Grammys14-Pink
The ‘Bedazzling & Bold’ Award | Pink
Bringing in a welcome pop of colour, Pink, went for a sleek red-hot look on the night. Her Johanna Johnson gown works so well with her athletic body and her small silver accessories add a touch of elegance.Grammys14-Foxes
Best of British Award | Foxes
There was a very distinct lack of Brit-cool this year, so I was thrilled to see Foxes (aka Louisa Rose Allen) on the red carpet last night. What was even better was that she wore bold, geometric print Vivienne Westwood too! Despite the impressive pattern, it’s the draping around the shoulders that caught my eye.
    Grammys14-Sara Barielles
The Haute Hippie Award | Sara Barielles
Sara is proving herself to be one of the women I anticipate at award shows and she didn’t let me down here! First off there’s her feathered Blumarine dress, then there’s her exciting choice of coral clutch and matching peep-toes, and finally her self proclaimed ‘Katniss Everdeen-inspired’ hair. The whole look is both stylish and so much fun!
    Grammys14-Kelly Osbourne
No #1 Reporter Award | Kelly Osbourne
Usually on the other side of the red carpet line and critiquing the celebrities looks, this time Kelly captured my attention in this dark Badgley Mischka dress with embellished shoulders. I’ve not been a fan of her purple bob, but this Wintour-esque cut and accompanying purple jewels – including a purple cross from her Dad Ozzy! – add even more drama to the gothic ensemble.
    Grammys14-Beyonce
The ‘You Can Call Me Queen B’ Award | Beyonce
Beyonce, unfortunately missed out on the red carpet to get ready for her incredible opening performance with Jay-Z. But she did change into this sexy sheer Michael Costello for the press room afterwards. The entire body of the gown is embroidered with white floral motifs and daring peek-a-boo cut outs. Finished off with a bold red lip and messy bob cut, little else was needed when you wear a showstopper like this!
Who were your favourites from the night?
