  • Tonight | 50th Anniversary of West Side Story

If any of you are musical theatre nerd like me you should recognise the photo above and you’ll also know that this week marks the 50th Anniversary of the release of West Side Story in theatres.

LIFE magazine released previously unseen photos from the filming of the movie featuring legendary actors and actresses such as Natalie Wood, Richard Beymer, Rita Moreno, George Chakiris and Russ Tamblyn, and more can be seen by clicking this link.

Everything about the film is completely timeless. From the re-shaping of the Romeo and Juliet love story to the recognisable New York setting, wonderful musical scoring and ever classic costuming.

In fact it really spoke volumes to me when my old theatre group were able to easily source many of the costumes of their recent production from the baseball jackets, pretty 40’s/50’s style dresses, to the boy’s chinos (if you know the musical I swear no pun intended :P) and turn up jeans were all found on the high street.

A shift towards a better classier style of dressing? Or just another happy accident that the designers for current clothes stores are all feeling a little pretty, witty and gay?

Either way, I’m just happy to celebrate a really legendary musical (and definitely one of my favourites) and all the amazing fashion inspiration it brings.

    Happy Birthday, West Side Story!

  • Plug in baby

I’ll admit right now when I definitely went through an emo style stage when I was in my early teens. It involved alot of black, converse, skinny jeans and listening to emo/indie/pop punk. I’ve grown out of it slightly but not enough to still be drawn to the look of ear tapers, flesh tunnels, plugs etc. I’m definitely not one to go for a huge gauge size but the smaller sizes still appeal to me (and won’t send my mother into shock :P). So you can imagine my surprise when I was browsing TopShop a few weeks ago when I found they sell fake plug earrings. There’s a wider range of styles and colours in store but I personally love the black version I saw yesterday of this silver one I’ve found online.

What about you guys? What do you think about flesh tunnels/plugs?

Should they be something brought into the mainstream?
  • Growing up…you’re doing it right | Chloe Moretz

Chloe Grace Moretz. Remember that name people because I have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot more of this young lady in the future.

Why am I mentioning her now?

Well, I was browsing through my usual fashion blogs and websites for the latest red carpet looks and came across Miss Moretz in the gorgeous Christopher Kane ensemble. She looked stylish, very chic and most importantly age appropriate. In a world where girls are so desperate to look older than they are it’s great to see someone like Chloe, at the age of 14, managing to grab my attention without shaking her thang in next to nothing. But that doesn’t mean she’s stiff when it comes to fashion.

From a pink Chanel number at the BAFTA’s, to an edgy Burberry look. Chloe never pushes herself to look to mature with her styling.

She’s even proved how versatile she could be in many a fashion editorial. If acting doesn’t work out for her she could definitely model.

Like I said before, remember her name.

Well done Chloe, you give me hope for the future generation of fashionable celebs.
