Am about to getting pretty personal up in here….

“…solitude matters and that for some people it is the air that they breathe.”

    – Susan Cain, TED Talks: The Power of Introverts

Starting anything new can be terrifying for an introvert like me. I’m fine with being sociable, I’m fine with making friends, and I love meeting new people but sometimes I need to take a step back, breathe and have some time alone. Have felt like this with Uni recently and though I love the atmosphere of being a student again, there’s so much pressure to be social within the first few weeks of term that it can feel a little overwhelming sometimes.
I found this talk a few weeks ago by Susan Cain about Introversion and I honestly wish I could’ve had heard her speak about this growing up. Over the past few years I’ve come to terms with being ok with needing to be alone, that I need to have some time go myself to even function and that it’s actually a good thing. It can get frustrating sometimes that some people haven’t come to terms with this part of my personality as much as I have, but I’m lucky to have a good set of friends and family who do just ‘get it’.
I’ve embedded Susan’s TED video below if you’re interested. She’s a wonderful speaker, but is also an introvert herself – have also just started reading her book, Quiet, which is also brilliant so far!

Though Summer may be slipping into Autumn I’m still dreaming of a holiday. Inspired by Cannes and the beauty of the Cote D’Azur, Parisan style mixed with seaside glamour; small French streets early in the morning leading to turquoise blue seas; straw hats and European boys in rolled up khakis; red lipstick on gleaming white yachts; swimsuits, stripes and Bardot-esque hair.

Because sometimes we should remember the people we look up to and admire as celebrities are mortal. One day they won’t be there, but the memory of how they influenced our lives will stay in our minds for years to come.
