  • Screen Actors Guild Awards 2015 | Red Carpet Fashion Round Up

We’re back with another red carpet round up! This time I’m giving you the lowdown on my favourite looks from this year’s Screen Actor’s Guild Awards (the SAGs!) held this past Sunday at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

    SAGAwards15-Keira-Knightley

Best Dressed Award | Keira Knightley

By far the best dressed of the evening was the radiant looking Keira Knightley, who chose to walk the red carpet is an elegant, purple Erdem gown. Keira often favours the most interesting shapes and designs, and this one is no exception. The draping around the waistline works wonderfully over her growing baby bump and I love the lace detailing all over the skirt. Set off with a pretty, informal half up-do, framing her face, this is winning look for me!

    SAGAwards15-Felicity-Jones

Modern Day Pretty In Pink Award | Felicity Jones

Felicity pulled a 180 on us for the SAGs opting for a more minimalist shape in this Balenciaga column gown. This is such a beautiful pale pink hue, which looks amazing with her skin tone, but it’s the wrap around shoulder detail that really captured my attention. The whole look is set off with delicate jewellery and neutral rose coloured make-up.

    SAGAwards15-Emma-Stone

Fashion Forward Award | Emma Stone

Once again Emma completely brought it in another left field look, opting for a Christian Dior gown with a fitted blazer-esque menswear inspired dress with sheer midi skirt detailing. With her slicked back hair, bold red lip and silver earcuffs, Emma gives off an almost semi-gothic/working girl vibe which I’m so behind.

    SAGAwards15-Sarah-Hyland

Gothic Fairytale Award | Sarah Hyland

I get so giddy when a Vera Wang design appears on the red carpet and this custom gown worn by Sarah Hyland is no exception. Just look at that bejeweled bodice! Paired with a sheer silk and tulle skirt the whole ensemble has an edgy fairytale princess feel. Also can we please talk about her amazing up-do? It’s so wonderfully intricate and sets off the whole look so well.

    SAGAwards15-Lupita-Nyong'o

Stealing The Limelight (again!) Award | Lupita Nyong’o

Lupita just keeps getting it right on the red carpet (again!) in an Elie Saab look. This shape always works so well on Lupita – and she always has loads of fun fanning out the skirt of the gown! With it’s array of pretty colours, modern floral motifs and plunging neckline, there’s very little need for extra accessories other than a killer up-do and her award winning smile.

    SAGAwards15-Camila-Alves

Not Your Average Plus One Award | Camila Alves

Once again, Camila Alves proves that she’s not content with simply being Mr McConaughey’s plus one on the red carpet. Camilla stormed it in this breathtaking Donna Karan gown, with a sweeping velveteen sash. The hourglass cut of the dress looks sensational on her and the deep purple gown works incredibly well with her skin tone.

    SAGAwards15-Tatiana-Maslany

Best Monochrome Award | Tatiana Maslany

My new favourite person ever (thanks to binge watching Orphan Black this week) is the wickedly talented Tatiana Maslany, who walked the SAG Awards red carpet in an awesome monochromatic Oscar De La Renta gown. There’s so much going on with this look, from the bold stripes across the bodice and skirt of the gown, to the pinned detailing on the skirt, bold red lip and pretty silver earrings. We very rarely see Tatiana on the red carpet, it’s so refreshing to see her all glammed up.

    SAGAwards15-Sarah-Paulson

Best Minimalist Look Award | Sarah Paulson

After so many AHS binges, I’m so used to seeing Sarah look a little bedraggled (and usually covered in dirt and blood…) so I always find it so amusing to see her looks so polished on the red carpet. Like Tatiana she also wore a monochromatic look, this time by Giorgio Armani. I love this more minimalist look on Sarah, who’s statuesque figure works well with the column fit of the gown. She paired this look with an equally impressive slicked back bob-cut – check out the fancy use of the bobby pins!

    SAGAwards15-Maisie-Williams

Ruby Red Award | Maisie Williams

Proving red lace can look look super delicate and youthful, Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams stepped out on the night in a lacey midi dress by Self-Portrait. This modern day take on the tea-dress shape works well with Maisie’s petite frame and set off with killer golden pumps is a fabulously fun look for the young actress.

    SAGAwards15-Sophie-Turner

Shoe Game Strong Award | Sophie Turner

Another Game of Thrones actress who captured my attention was Sophie Turner in her black asymmetric gown. As much as I love the gown’s downtown-cool feel, I need to talk about her equally amazing shoes. The little heart details on on the strap seem just lift the entire look and add a bit of fun to her very dark outfit.

    SAGAwards15-Uzo-Aduba

Most Striking Design Award | Uzo Aduba

Last but not least, another amazing look came Orange Is The New Black actress (and SAG Award recipient!), Uzo Aduba, who walked the red carpet in a bright and bold Angela Sanchez gown. The crosshatch netting and panelling alone is fantastic, design-wise, and only goes to accentuate her figure. And then there’s the almost florescent yellow colour of the gown itself, which just so striking on the red carpet. Such as dazzling look!

So those were all my favourites, who were yours?

Let me know in the comments!

  • Red Carpet Fashion Round Up | Screen Actors Guild Awards 2014

Another big awards night round up for you! This time we have the Screen Actors Guild Awards held this past Saturday in Los Angeles. It was a mixed bag of looks for me, but I’ve managed to pick out plenty of highlights from the night below…
Best of both decades Award | Amy Adams
Amy managed to marry both modern tailoring and Grace Kelly-esque styling with this fashion forward red carpet look. First, there’s her impressive, geometric cut Antonio Berardi gown, combining both a semi plunging neckline and thigh high split, and was embellished with a touch of silver with a metallic belt. Amy chose to style this with a beautiful faux bob and classic red Hollywood lips. This could’ve been a clashing ensemble but the whole look makes for a exquisite combination. Best dressed for me!
The ‘Knocking it out of the park, again’ Award | Lupita Nyong’o
Once again one of my firm favourites on the awards show red carpet, the current IT girl of the fashion world, Lupita Nyong’o completely walked over the competition at the SAG’s this year.
Taking on another bold colour choice, she donned a turquoise blue Gucci gown, it’s high neck littered with detailed floral embellishments. I’m glad she again opted for simple accessories here, anything else would’ve overpowered the sheer drama of the gown.
The ‘Daring To Be Different’ Award | Natalie Dormer

The woman everyone was talking about on the night was British actress Natalie Dormer. Not only did she go a little left-field in a white Marios Swchab gown, with black netting wrapped around the back of the shoulders, but she showed off a brand new partly shaved hairdo.
No one’s sure why she went for the chop – rumours are that it’s for the last Hunger Games film – but nevertheless I think she looks awesome here. With retro inspired hair, parted to show off an impressive ear cuff, and moody make-up, Natalie’s number one accessory that pulled the whole look together?…a ‘devil may care’ attitude.
    more under the cut…
The Shimmering Sirens Award | Isla Fisher + Emilia Clarke

Two shining stars next! Isla Fisher went all out Hollywood vixen in a beautiful ivory Oscar De La Renta gown. The colour is a brilliant contrast to her vivid red hair and I like the more burgundy tone to her lip colour too. Emilia Clarke went for rose pink sequined gown by Calvin Klein, which she styled up with a dramatic side-swept faux bob and dark accessories.
Most Unexpected Look Award | Julia Roberts

After blending into the background at the Golden Globes, Julia Robert took a risk – pulling a bit of an Emma Watson – and went for a bright pink hued Valentino jumpsuit. Luckily for her the risk paid off! The colour just brightens up her complexion and alongside a relaxed hairdo, makes for a memorable look for all the right reasons this time.
The Back To Basics Award | Jennifer Lawrence

JLaw in Christian Dior Couture! La La La! In all seriousness though, Jennifer pared down and went for sleeker look for the SAG’s. Her glittering, purple/black column gown is a vast improvement on her Golden Globes look and is proof that sometimes the bigger isn’t always better.
The ‘Keeping It Classy’ Award | Mindy Kaling
Keeping on the simple and understated theme, comedic actress Mindy Kaling opted to keep is simple in a midnight blue David Meister gown. The colour is stunning on Mindy, who went for simple gold accents and tousled hair to accompany this very classy look. Plus the draping around the neckline and hips are oh so flattering!

The Graphic Art Award | Julie Bowen

One of the more interesting dresses of the night was this look from actress Julie Bowen, who walked the red carpet in a striking Carolina Herrera dress. I adore the subtle architectural details of this gown, from the structured orange bodice, to the kimono-esque belt, to the bold graphic print on the skirt. It was a much welcome, contemporary look on what felt like a very traditional ‘old Hollywood’-style event.
Best Head-To-Toe Black Award | Tina Fey

Tina Fey arrived with the cutest accessory of the night…her adorable daughter Alice! Not only did Alice look like a mini sartorial star, but Tina herself looked amazing in a simple black Oscar De La Renta gown. Despite the dark nature of a black gown, the silhouette looks just spectacular on Tina and very little else was needed for her to make this a stand out look!
The Lady In Red Award | Elizabeth Moss
I think there’s some unwritten rule that red shouldn’t be worn on the red carpet…but in the case of Elizabeth Moss, you can toss that in the trash! I’m so in love with her bright red Michael Kors gown and even happier she also adopted a bright red lip too. The colour is magnificent against her skin tone too!
The True Hollywood Glamour Award | Sofia Vergara

Sometimes you just have to look toward the great icons of the past for some serious style inspiration. Sofia merged the old time confidence of Marilyn Monroe with the modern day sassiness of J-Lo, in this sparkling silver Donna Karan mermaid gown. Adorned with an impressive statement necklace and a classic waved hairdo, Sofia looked like she was born to walk the red carpet.
The ‘Flipped 180 Style’ Award | Michelle Dockery
From a dainty looking Golden Globes look to a full on minimalist J Mendel gown, Michelle’s proving herself to be quite the versatile dresser on the red carpet. White paneling and a plunging neckline add some drama to the look, and the classic red lips keep it from fading into the background.
I’m also impressed with her choice of monochrome pattern pumps, which only go on to compliment the gown even more.
Best Young Hollywood Award | Sarah Hyland

Award season has been lacking in the teen demographic, but Sarah Hyland represented her fellow youthful peers in a pale pink Pamella Roland gown. I am, for once, thankful the dress falls longer on Sarah than it does on the original model, though I do love that we can still see Sarah’s pretty jeweled pumps underneath.
Best ‘Plus-One’ + Best dressed couple Award | Camila Alves (+ Matthew McConoughey)
And finally, Camila Alves may only be at the awards to support her equally well dressed other half, but the spotlight was firmly on her this time in her sunshine yellow Donna Karan gown. The shape lends itself to Camila curves and love the way the fabric cascades down towards the train of the gown. Not to mention the colour, despite yellow being incredibly difficult to pull off, goes perfectly with her warm skin tone.
Matthew wasn’t completely upstaged! He too looked pretty slick in a sharp Dolce & Gabbana suit, with a charming bow tie!

And that’s the SAG Awards done and dusted!
Let me know what your favourite looks were too…

  • Screen Actors Guild Awards 2013 | Red carpet fashion round up

After a mini week break I’m back and reporting on the red carpet looks from the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards. I was again pleasantly surprised with many of the looks at this event and have highlighted some of the best and not-so-fab looks of the night.

    Marion Cottilard Jennifer Garner
Best dressed for me came from someone who usually just manages to slip by as a well done and I certainly must have a thing for big princess gowns at the moment considering who my favourite at the Globes was. Marion Cotillard looked stunning in a navy and white Pre-Fall 2013 Christian Dior gown, the whole look was perfectly styled from her diamond necklace, pointed pumps and sleek bob cut. She looked the epitome of Parisian chic to me.  I deliberated this next spot but Jennifer Garner was the close second on the night in a glittering gold Oscar De La Renta gown, with lightly styled waves she was proof was sometimes less is more when it comes to looking great.
Jennifer Lawrence Nicole Kidman Amanda Seyfried
It seems like navy blue was the unofficial dress code on the night with three of the award’s biggest stars turning up in the same shade. Jennifer Lawrence greatly improved on her Globes look in a beautiful Christian Dior down…only for it to wardrobe malfunction whilst recieving her award! Oops! Nicole Kidman seems to be on a winning streak at the moment and really caught my eye in an embellished and embroidered Vivienne Westwood gown. And finally Amanda Seyfried opted for a fishtail Zac Posen look with sleek Hollywood hair.
    Ariel Winter Keirnan Shipka
Tween Hollywood definitely gaves some of the veterans a run for their money. Ariel Winter once again looked utterly grown up in a very pretty Alex Perry gown with embroidered floral details along her shoulders and down the dress. Emma-Watson-a-like and Mad Men ministar Keirnan Shipka wore an enchanting little Oscar De La Renta tea dress. She’s slowly taking Chloe Moretz spot of best dressed blonde starlet in my heart and has amazing poise for one so young.

    Jayma Mays Naya Rivera
The Glee contigent were out in force on the night with pretty much all of the main cast, plus some newbies out on the red carpet (sans Dianna Agron *sobs*). Best dressed from the group for me was actually Jayma Mays. Jayma usually blends behind the likes of Naya and Lea but she really shone in a white Georges Hobeika gown – feeling a little inspired by your wedding storyline Jayma? Second was the infinitely fierce Naya Rivera, her Donna Karen gown was actually one of the first I spotted at the event and it’s totally Naya. Sleek, sexy with vintage inspired hair!
A surprising let down from Lea Michelle, her Valentino gown is beautiful, but with the styling and compared to the other ladies on the night she was kinda okay (her lovely date Corey Monteith on the other hand looked very handsome). Looks like neither Lea or her Glee alter-ego aren’t in my good books at the moment. Jenna Ushkowitz was another one who was a miss for me. I had hope she’d step up to the plate as one of the show’s new lead stars but her gothic inspired Rebecca Minkoff gown and Michelle-a-like hair was not good. Hope came in the form of two actresses who’s characters are like rays of sunshine on the show. Heather Morris really improved this year in a beautifully detailed Gomez-Garcia gown and newbie Vanessa Lengies wore one of my favourite Marchesa gowns.
    Jessica Chastin Kelly Osbourne
Two ladies who improved upon their Globes looks were Jessica Chastin and Kelly Osbourne. Jessica went back to her failsafe Alexander McQueen mix and look fabulous for it – who says red heads can’t pull of red gowns?! Despite my urge to dye the whole of Kelly Osbourne’s hair to something remotely normal looking I actually didn’t mind her Jenny Packham gown, had her hair been less grey-purple I may be more impressed.
    Anne Hathaway January Jones
It always makes me sad to see actresses who are so usually on point with their style fall flat at these events. Which is why is pains me so to put Anne Hathaway and January Jones so low on my list. After an impressive Globes look Anne simply melted into the background in her Giambattisa Valli Couture gown, she looks beautiful, the gown is beautiful but she just didn’t shine as much as her Chanel look from a few weeks ago. Fingers crossed for better BAFTAs/Oscar looks!
Maybe it’s the pressure of playing such a stylish character but I really wasn’t a fan of January’s Prabal Gurung look. The styling was odd and so was her hair, which is a shame as I’m usually fawning hard over this designer’s gowns.

    Michelle Dockery Nina Dobrev

Not wanting to end this on a negative note! Michelle Dockery is slowly becoming the rising star of this year’s awards show season. She looked amazing in a Chado Ralph Rucci gown, with its sheer side panelling, minimal style and side swept hair, her whole look is subtley sexy and rather refined. Nina Dobrev brought out some colour at the ceremony is an Elie Saab gown in hot pink. Again the key to this winning look is simplicity, with only her small glittering jewels and clutch, Nina lets the dress do the talking.

So, favourite looks? Any I missed? Let me know!

    Keep on wishing…
