  • Wishlist Item(s)….graphic florals at H&M

    Graphic Florals H&M
It’s been a while since I’ve done a wishlist item, but I spotted these whilst window shopping on the H&M site and couldn’t resist. Florals are always a big trend during Spring collections, but H&M have given them a little twist. Bright and bold on pitch black backgrounds, the prints aren’t quite the usual ditzy/pretty florals we’re used to seeing in Spring. The skirt in particular reminds me of the ol’ ? ink blot tests.
They’re a little different and perfect for that instant wardrobe update.

It’s not often one of fashion’s biggest power houses makes its way any further north than London town, but Chanel braved the frosty chill of the highlands of Scotland to showcase this year’s Metiers d’Art collection.
The Parisian brand took over the grounds of Linlithgow Palace – the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots – just on the outskirts of Edinburgh in spectacular fashion.
The theatrical medieval setting provided a stunning backdrop to a collection swathed in tartan, ruffles and luxurious layering, perfect for a winter’s day. The rich woolen textures were peppered with gemstones and Elizabethan hair and make up made for a collection that almost felt like it had the McQueen stamp of approval on it. In true Lagerfeld style the collection was bold and dramatic…and I expected no less to be honest.

  • Mad [Wo]Men | A twist on lady like style for SS 2013

SS13 Mad Women header Fashion comes and goes but there are sometimes occasions when designers decide to shake things up a bit. Take three of my favourite collections from across the fashion weeks, Temperley London, Vivienne Westwood Red Label and Holly Fulton. All three designers took on the classic ‘lady-like’ trend that tends to roll around every few seasons.
But this time they did it with a twist.
The lovely ladies presented on the runways showcased some of the typical features of this trend, pretty mid length skirts, button down shirts, and clothes that leave you with a sense of nostalgia. But the looks were slightly skewed.
    SS13 Mad Women details
Peek-a-book panels were twisted and presented against a mismatch of garish prints, with no outfit felt completely put together but in a good way. Shirts and blouses were loose, lazily hanging off shoulders at Vivienne Westwood; lazer cut lace detailing hinted at bodies underneath the demure dresses at Temperley; and Holly Fulton pulled out a brave set of colours, shapes and sheer.
Think granny chic your granny wouldn’t be dare wear. Think housewife gone mad.

Even the beauty details were bold, fresh and youthful. With splashes of blue eyes and coral lips, all topped off with a variety of ‘old school’ do’s, backcombed and brushed to messy perfection.

So what do you guys think? Are you on board with this slightly off kilter look?
