  • On losing my blogging mojo

    oxford-instagram-rcagz

Sometimes blogging can be super easy. You get all these ideas and spend hours writing and planning and posting and interacting and you can get a tonne of stuff scheduled and it feels amazing.

And then there are times like where I am now. It’s a little like blogger’s block but it’s feels more like blogger’s fatigue mixed with life falling on top of me. It’s not like I haven’t got ideas – I feel like I have a billion of them but I can’t get any ideas out of my head. Every time I open up my laptop and fire up Evernote or my notepad, my mind goes blank and then something else more important (like bills or cooking or work) crops up.

I haven’t lost my love of blogging but with the massive upheaval of my life recently I’ve kinda run out of steam.

January is notoriously hard for everyone and though it’s a good time of year to start afresh, that doesn’t mean you can stop making or starting resolutions once January 31st hits. So I’m going to try and turn over a new leaf in February. I want to shake off this blogging funk and find my mojo again.

    PSA over & out.

  • The Sunday Share Out #1

Keeping up with my favourite resolution for 2015, I want to start posting about some of my favourite links and bits to share the love around the blogsphere. So, welcome to the first of what I hope will be many editions of The Sunday Share Out!

    • I’ve caught the cooking bug since I’ve moved out, so I’ve made sure to bookmark Sarah’s tips on how to lighten up a recipe without sacrificing flavour. Yum!
    • Katy (Little Miss Katy) lists off her top 5 favourite children’s books. It’s a topic that often neglected in the book blogging community, so it was really lovely to see some of my own favourites on the list.
    • My friend Michelle has started afresh on her Youtube channel and will be sharing bits and pieces of her life now that she has moved to Hong Kong. She’s adorable so you should all subscribe, yeah? ;)
    • I adore of all of I Am Galla’s blog posts (and they always make me miss New York oh so much), but I really loved his little photo diary of East Williamsburg and Buskwick. The Pine Box Rock Shop bar reminds of the one I visited with my cousin last year.
    • Monica from Miss At La Playa shares some New Year’s resolutions for Instagram. As self confessed Insta-addict, I’m definitely guilty of some of the cliches, so taking on some of her resolutions will be a good step to up my Insta-tography game.
    • If you aren’t already subscribed to Lucy’s (Teawiththreesugars) Youtube channel…WHY NOT? I’ve been a little addicted to her Vlog Everyday In January (lovingly nicknamed VEDJ), especially her little post on accomplishment and achievement.
    • Jen’s year in travel post has honestly given me a serious case of the wanderlust bug. In addition to her exciting travels overseas to Hamburg, New York and Spain, she’s also include her mini stay-cation trips to Edinburgh and the Lake District.
    • Speaking of New Year’s resolutions, there’s been an explosion of them in the blogsphere of resolution posts, but my favourite I’ve seen is Rosie’s. I love the idea of setting a word goal to centre around and her word (‘balance’) is a fantastic one to focus on.
    • Sophie’s informative post about not quitting your day job is frankly quite brilliant, honest and so worth a read for anyone thinking of potentially moving from full-time work to full-time freelance blogging.
    • After shifting half of my books to Oxford I’ve been considering my TBR more closely lately. Alexa gives some fantastic tips on how to cull your mounting TBR pile, which I’ll be implementing ASAP!

  • Red Carpet Fashion Round Up | Golden Globes 2015

Happy beginning of awards show season guys! It’s my favourite sartorial time of year again and kicking off the festivities was the 2015 Golden Globe Awards held in Beverly Hills last Sunday.

As usual I’m picking out just some of my favourite looks from the night below…

    GoldenGlobes15-Emma Stone

Best Dressed & Most Left-Field Award | Emma Stone

The best look of the evening, rather unexpectedly came from the ever amazing Emma Stone, who walked the red carpet in a Lanvin jumpsuit. It’s was a risky move but was totally worth it because she completely and utterly rocked this! With it’s beaded top, sweeping sash and slim fit trousers, this look would just scream wrong on anyone else but Emma somehow manages to carry it off with wonderful flair.

    GoldenGlobes15-Rosamund Pike

Most Angelic Award | Rosamund Pike

One of the first on the red carpet was the exquisite looking Rosamund Pike, who wore a stunning white Vera Wang gown. The whole looks is very ethereal but her sleek bob cut and minimal jewellery (just a simple set of diamond earrings) keeps this from looking too bridal. The cut-out trend is very over done on the red carpet but I love the way this gown wings out into the taffeta skirt of the dress.

    GoldenGlobes15-Quvenzhane Wallis

Most Adorable Attendee Award | Quvenzhane Wallis

Quvenzhane Wallis is an old pro at the red carpet by now, having made her debut as the youngest nominee at many of last year’s awards show events. This year she looked appropriately adorable in a custom Giorgio Armani gown. I adore the little beaded detailing across the top paired with the pretty lilac of the taffeta skirt, so cute! And all accessorised with a beautiful smile too :)

    GoldenGlobes15-Naomi Watts

The Let The Sunshine In Award | Naomi Watts

Naomi Watts was a welcome burst of colour in a sleek canary yellow Gucci gown. This shape works really well on Naomi and her eye-catching accessories (namely that amazing Buglari snake necklace) and tousled long bob are a nice twist on a classic Hollywood look.

    GoldenGlobes15-Lorde

The Doin’ It Her Way Award | Lorde

Emma wasn’t the only one rocking something a little left-field on the night. Singer-songwriter, Lorde worked an amazing all black menswear-inspired ensemble by Narciso Rodriguez. The loose-fitting trousers, sleek blazer and fitted crop top suits Lorde’s more relaxed style to a ’t’ and set off the look with a jaw dropping-ly gorgeous Neil Lane statement necklace. This is definitely one of my favourite looks I’ve ever seen from her.

    GoldenGlobes15-Dakota Johnson

50 Shades Of Silver | Dakota Johnson

Shimmering onto the red carpet in the midst of her new found fame was actress Dakota Johnson, and she made sure all eyes were on her in a glittering silver Chanel Couture gown. I remember seeing this piece from the collection and I’m so impressed with how well it’s translated on the runway. The dress itself borders on the right side of sexy and looks amazing styled against Dakota’s loose brown hair.

    GoldenGlobes15-Lupita Nyong'o

The She’s Still Got It Award | Lupita Nyong’o

After storming the 2014 awards season Lupita N’yongo once again proved why she topped the best dressed lists again and again in an eye-catching Giambatista Valli gown. Just look at how incredible the floral bodice looks! This colour is also sensational on her and the waterfall effect of the floral print is really breathtaking. Here’s hoping she keeps up her unbeaten track record at these events.

    GoldenGlobes15-Allison Williams

The Ravishing In Red Award | Allison Williams

Another favourite of mine from last year was ‘Girls’ actress Allison Williams and this year she looked just as incredible is this Armani Prive number. Not only is this a knockout colour on her, but the subtle layering and beading is really beautiful. Plus her retro styling is absolutely killer, gotta love her smokey eyes which gives the whole look a cool young Hollywood edge.

    GoldenGlobes15-Felicity Jones

The English Rose Award | Felicity Jones

One of the most head turning looks on the night was, Best Actress nominee, Felicity Jones’ Christian Dior Couture gown. This teal blue number is certainly not your typical red carpet princess look, but I’m loving it nonetheless, especially structured skirt. The high neck and prim and proper styling leave Felicity looking very aristocratic. What a beaut!

So we’re off to a flying start! Can’t wait to see what else this awards season brings :D

What were your favourite looks of the evening?
