So this is a bit of a weird two week posts. Not so much of a round up – to be fair there’s not much to tell that’s any different from the last couple of posts like this (in summary, work, hot Summer in England, work, getting ill, work…yep lol). I did come home to many exciting things in the post this week too (you’ll need to wait for posts about all those ;P)

Instead this update is a bit of a taste of what’s to come…namely me off to good ol’ LDN for my first fan convention, LeakyCon 2013! I’m beyond excited, having counted down for nearly a year and it finally being mere days away. Now I may not be leaving till Wednesday morning but I’m gonna be stuck under a whole world of panic packing and the like, so I’ve got some treats lined up for you.
As you may – or may not – have noticed, I’ve not posted a Blog of the Month update for July. Well to make up for it, I’ve got not one, not two, not three but four lovely guest bloggers writing for the blog whilst I’m away dancing at Wizard Rock concerts and trying to track down Evannah Lynch…ahem.
    So coming up! *drumroll*
    • MondayErin from E-Elise and my ever-organised co-captain of the SS Blogger’s Bookshelf!
    • WednesdayLaura,  formerly of Only Half Dressed, Laura’s now one of our regulars on Blogger’s Bookshelf
    • FridayAnjali, a Kiwi turned Brit blogger at ‘From &P to English Tea‘, fellow book worm and globe-trotting traveller!
    • SundayBecky, the lovely blogger from BeckyBedbug with a wonderfully quirky writing style.
So you get a break from me and my rambling! Make sure you stay tuned, I know I’ll be scheduling one or two blogging breaks from the madness of Con life to keep up and see what these ladies have written.

See you on the other side!

  • Bold vs Bare | The Great Summer Make-Up Debate

    bare-v-bold-header
Summer is here and when choosing beauty looks there are two trends that crop up in magazines at the moment…whether to go bare and fresh faced OR take a hold of bold and beautiful colour!
    bare-faced-make-up
In one corner, there’s the bare faced and au-natural look. Think simple, translucent base make up in sun kissed shades, alongside neutral tones of eyeshadow and light powder blushes that give you a hint of colour on those cheeks. You should be aiming to look like you could’ve strolled off a beach in California, fresh from a day surfing or light stroll through an English country park. Perfect for those days when you simply CBA-d to make an effort, and why should you? It’s Summer!
    bold-make-up
The other alternative is something that embraces the fun loving nature of the season. Bright and colourful make up is a trend that makes its way into our hearts every year. Neon shades in all kinds of beauty products evoke images of Ibiza ravers and hot nights out of the town. But it can also be great to add some rockstar edge alongside Boho looks at manic music festivals or some glamour at the poolside in tropical holiday towns.
Personally I’ll be aiming for something simpler this Summer – especially with the heat! But seeing as I’ve been trying to get more into my make up this year, a couple of unlikely shades of the rainbow may make their way into my beauty routine.
Which look will you be rocking this Summer? Bare-faced or Bold?

  • Travels | Southampton Art & Design Market + Go! Rhinos Trail

A few photos from my time out in the sunshine with the bestie, Kath, around Southampton town. It was an absolutely sweltering day and we spent the first part of it outside milling around the Southampton Art, Design, Antiques & Vintage Market. The market’s only been running monthly for the past few months so it’s still fairly small, never-the-less I picked up a new vintage top and a cute little cat ear ring from two of the stalls there and made up a wishlist in my head of the antiques, trinkets and prints I would furnish my hypothetical future flat/home with – a girl can dream right?
As well as some much needed retail therapy – and an unsuccessful trip to find and buy The Cuckoo’s Calling, let down Waterstones! – we headed out to hunt for Rhinos…stick with me.
To celebrate their 40th anniversary, Marwell Wildlife Park in Hampshire commissioned it’s Go! Rhinos trail. The public art event had the Park commission artists, businesses and schools to showcase their talent on life sized Rhinos statues. The majority of them were sat around the town centre, but some are hidden as far as Winchester and Marwell itself. The statues will be staying in the city all the way up to September, so if you’re in town do try and get on the trail – we found it pretty fun trying to find out where they’d put them! We captured a handful and took photos of our favourites before giving up in the heat and relaxing the park for the rest of the day.
