Blog Of The Month | Blogger’s Bookshelf
Ok, ok. Kinda sorta biased BOTM this month and a bit of a different format for the occasion! A year ago this past Saturday, I posted my weekly round up post here, mentioning my interest in maybe starting up a book blog (Notice the little comment from an kind of awesome person called Erin ;P).One year later, and Erin and I have just help celebrate the blog’s first birthday! It’s been an insane year of writing, organisation and a millions emails (check out some of our blog stats in this Infographic I made up!) but it’s been totally worth it.I only need to look at our review A-Z and feel all the things, including pride, at how dedicated and talented our regular reviewers are, and how much our readers have loved contributing and commenting too. As someone who’s always played along the peripheries of fandoms and communities, it’s kinda strange to be so heavily involved in the Internet book bloggers circle now – so much so that it’s creeped into so many posts here on Wishing For Chanel too!So I raise my glass to Blogger’s Bookshelf! And dedicate huge and much needed thank you to the ever amazing Erin for being such a fantastic co-captain (believe me this blog would be nothing with her drive to make it work!), the fabulous blogging team, and of course the readers :)Here’s to another year ;)ps. We have a pretty epic giveaway a-happening on the blog to celebrate! You can win a copy of Earth Star by Janet Edwards and Fearsome Dreamer by Laure Eve. And to top it off, Fearsome Dreamer is SIGNED By Laure herself (she lovely enough to sign two things for me at LeakyCon ;D). SO be sure to enter! Just click here to check out the post and good luck! -
Two Weeks | #13
– awesome sunset – stripes & boot season – a break in the clouds over the Harbour – cameo necklace – catch up with Kath at 7Bone – werk selfie – dissertation madness – Krispy Kreme for the train home – Autumnal colours – got my hands on Allegiant –This is just a quick one today as I’m currently on a train to go see the lovely Erin in London town – hopefully I won’t get blown away or stranded because of falling trees on train lines #Eek. Very much of the same in terms of life. I feel like someone’s just hit the ‘power on’ button at Uni and the past week in particular has just gotten insanely busy. Am just hoping to get through the next week and relax a little thanks to a mini Employability Week at Uni (with no scheduled seminars/lectures wahoo!). Uni is one half of the story because blog life has been hectic too, as I’ve been managing this blog the past two weeks on top of the very exciting birthday posts at Blogger’s Bookshelf!
Speaking of which! It was the blog’s first birthday yesterday! How mental is it that Erin and I have been running this show alongside our team of awesome writers for a year?? Erin was a clever little thing and found the actual post that set the cogs in motion here :) crazy how one little comment on a post like this can spiral! We’ve got a little giveaway going which includes a copy of Earth Star and a signed copy of Fearsome Dreamer! It’s running for till the 9th November so get those entries in quick ;)5 links to <3- Feeling just as inspired by Orla Kiely as Christina from Kiki and Me.
- The lovely Lauren Fairweather’s running gear list on Sublime! Gotta get me some decent shoes…
- Vegan Doc Martins? What? Awesome!
- Want, want, want Briony from A Girl, A Style’s whole outfit in this post.
- Reading Becca’s post about her experience dealing with Thyroid Tumours, she’s such an incredibly brave lady for writing it <3

Halloween Costumes For The Fashion Conscious | 2013 Edition!
Halloween is just around the corner and last year I put together a post called ‘Halloween costumes for the fashion conscious‘. It became one of my most popular posts on the blog and even got a mention on IFB’s Links A La Mode. So I’m resurrecting it again with another set of costumes that will not only be great to dress up in but will score you some serious style points…costume details: Smashbox eyebrow kit trio, | ‘Trouble’ beanie | Faux leather combat boots | Bomber jacketCara Delevingne | The most talked about model of the moment, Cara Delevingnge certainly has one of the most recognisable faces in fashion at the moment. So why not take on her off-duty street style for an easy Halloween costume fix? It’s all about rock-chic mixed with hipster detailing when it comes to taking on Cara’s costume. So grab a beanie, combat boots, a simple skinny jean and t-shirt combo for something effortless. Let’s not forget the feature that Cara’s most known for…her brows! If you’re not blessed with Cara’s fuller browline look already then dig out those brow kits and fill out.
‘Go the extra mile’ details- An iPhone – for those famous Instagram selfies
- Harry Styles cut-out
- An friend dressed as any of her posse – take your pick from Nick Grimshaw, Rita Ora or Pixie Geldof.
costume details: M by Missioni coat | Nars lipstick | Moleskin notebookGrace Coddington | Last time I did this I featured the formidable head of US Vogue, Anna Wintour. This time round I have her second in command, the equally driven creative director, Grace Coddington. Known for her flaming red hair and minimalistic style, Grace’s costume on really requires a few details such as a structured coat or all-black clothing to get the look spot on. Make-up wise, again, keep it simple, an ivory palette and a slick of lipstick are all you need – oh and a red headed wig!‘Go the extra mile’ details
- A moleskin notebook (for copies scribbles about runway trends and most effective ways to get Anna to listen to her)
- Copies of Vogue
costume details: Pant suit | Black bow tie | Two tone broguesJustin Timberlake | Sexy’s back. Mr Timberlake’s had quite the year since releasing Suit & Tie and his 20 freakin’ minute VMA performance slot. If you fancy a gender-bending costume this year (or want to wear something warmer than a devil costume) then slick back that hair, polish those spats and suit up!
‘Go the extra mile’ details
- A fake Grammy awards
- Trilby hat
- A friend dressed as Jay-Z or an entourage dressed as the Tennessee kids
costume details: Plaid skirt | Cardigan | Clinique lip chubby stick | Eyeshadow duo | Mary Jane platform shoesCher ‘Clueless’ Horowitz | Did you know that the 90’s are like totally in this year? I may or may not have a Clueless obsession at the moment, and what luck! Cher’s preppy Valley Girl style is very on-trend this year. So you’ll have no problem finding costume details like plaid skirts, country club cardigans and mary jane shoes. Beauty-wise going girly is essential with this look, not to mention going all out when it comes to hair accessories and jewellery.
‘Go the extra mile’ details- Fluffy pens/notebooks
- Shopping bags…lots of them
- A dreamy date dressed as the ever adorable Josh or a bestie dressed as Dione!
Taylor Swift | Like Timberlake, my girl Taylor Swift has had quite the year with Number singles, a best selling album, huge tour and, of course, lots of love life drama! But putting all that aside, who wouldn’t want to dress as her for Halloween? All you need are some super cute vintage fit and flare dressed or go for the top/high-waisted short combo (if the top is sparkly you get extra brownie points!). Top off with her signature red lip and a spritz of ‘Wonderstruck’ and your all good to go!‘Go the extra mile’ details
- Red microphone
- Embellished guitar
- Flip book with ‘ex-boyfriends’
