  • Brighton Bloggers Meet Up

    So last Sunday I got up nice and early, headed off to the train station with my Kindle, breakfast yoghurt and coffee in hand to journey up to one of my favourite places in the UK…Brighton! 
    My mission for the day? An informal blogger’s meet up organised by the lovely Skye. It was an intimate affair of six bloggers. We gossiped outside the Mash Tun under grey skies, talking everything from old school TV shows, zombie running apps, the latest blogger craze (Apocalips, hello?) and babies all the while enjoying people watching, munching on Pinterest inspired snacks (thanks to Skye and Lauren) and avoiding the eye of a rather creepy looking clown – Brighton Fringe was on, should’ve expected some odd ones walking around. 
    When the sun finally many an appearance, we decided to take to the lanes, popping into a vintage shop and Tiger (which I’m officially in love with!), before getting to the seafront. After a leisurely stroll down the pier – spotting some lovely Lindy hop dancers too! – we spent the last few moments together in the Pavilion Gardens, with the sun having dried up the grass enough for us to sit on till we went our separate ways to get trains/buses etc home.

    And because we’re so organised – haha not – we managed to go the whole day without doing a group photo =S #Oops But the lovely bloggers who made it down were:
    Lauren from Belle Du Brighton
    Michelle from DaisyButter
    and Erin from E-Elise and the organisational force of nature behind Blogger’s Bookshelf. (Hate to pick favourite moments but it was great to finally meet Erin, seeing as we run a freaking blog together! :P)

    All in all a chill day with some lovely people. We all agreed this type of meet up was definitely on the cards to do in the future – weather permitting! – so keep an eye out on the blogsphere for the next one :)

    This is a quicky post as I’m heading to BRIGHTON tomorrow for a Bloggers Meet Up ^_^. It’s been a busy ol’ two weeks blogwise. I finally got going on my redesign! It’s still not quite finished but I hope you like what I’ve done so far. I’m really happy with how it turned out but let me know what you think, always love a good bit of feedback :) Aside from this it’s been busy, busy, busy drafting posts, including my two part Met Gala round ups here and here and my Great Gatsby post, planning ahead and actually taking time to read blogs. I feel I’ve been majorly slacking on doing this lately I clearly follow so many!

  • Boats Against The Current | Inspiration from The Great Gatsby

    As a big fan of the book and with the release of the Luhrmann movie adaptation in theatres this week, I thought I’d take a closer look at, arguably, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s greatest work: The Great Gatsby. 
    I’ve already briefly outlined my thoughts on the book itself in my March book review round up, but if you’re unsure of the plotline it’s the story of the enigma that is Jay Gatsby. Narrated through the eyes of his friend, neighbour and a bystander to the drama that unfolds, Nick Carraway, the book follows the tale of Gatsby’s obsession with a young married woman called Daisy Buchanan (with whom he shared a relationship with when they were young). 
    Set in the backdrop of the Roaring Twenties, in the era of prohibition the book is full of the excess and glamour of its historical time. 
    The excess is perfectly represented in the adaptation’s costume designs. Around 40 designs were created by Muiccia Prada herself alongside the film’s costume designer Catherine Martin.

    The two who reap the most benefits of the designs are undoubtedbly the movie’s two female leads: Carey Mulligan and Elizabeth Debicki (who play Daisy Buchanan and Jordan Baker respectively).

    The male characters also benefited from an equally lavish wardrobe, courtesy of preppy American label Brooks Brothers – they’ve even collaborated to sell replicas of the line of suits worn in the movie here.

    The film’s costumes are just the foreground to what is set to be one of the most visually stunning films of the year – if Luhrmann’s track record is anything to go by (hello, Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rogue etc).
