Quick post again. Another week over and nearly the end of the month! April went by far too quick for my liking, next thing I know it’ll be my birthday…oh wait, that’s next week isn’t it? =| how scary is that! I’m actually not sure what I’m doing next weekend, but I guess sometimes the best plans are the most spontaneous.
The lovely Spring weather here in the South has inspired me to do some Spring cleaning, so if I’m honest my week’s been spent mooning over doing a blog graphic revamp. So I’ve been chain downloading fonts, textures and playing around in Photoshop with headers and colours. I’m still not sure when I’ll properly get my act together and update my graphics, but hopefully it’ll be soon.
Also in blog news, it was good getting to red carpet blog again (don’t forget to check out my MTV Movie Awards Show post here) it’s a nice reminder that blogging ideas can come from anywhere and I have some posts up my sleeve!

  • Review: Barry M ‘Gelly’ Hi-Shine

Barry M Hi-Shine ‘Gelly’ Nails in ‘Lychee’, £3.99 from Boots

I’m usually a little behind on new nail trends, but with Boots doing 3 for 2 I ended picking this little Barry M bottle up too.
I’m not sure what I expected this to be like, having only glanced at a few other blogger reviews on this. As they’re called ‘Gelly’ nails I guess my assumption would’ve been a rubber texture nail polish – in line with the texture trend coming through.
The range is actually high-gloss and shine finish, which seems bog standard with a lot of the high range polishes, with one coat provided enough coverage and two offering a better finish. Without a topcoat it lasted about a week with little to no chipping, which compared to other Barry M products I’ve used is extremely  impressive. The whole range of colours is quite bright, but ‘Lychee‘ offers a nice and neutral base, perfect for nail art or for a subtle day-to-day polish for work. The only downside I’ve found is, due to it’s thickness, it takes a while longer to dry, but that’s only a minor flaw.
Will definitely be taking a gander at buying the other shades!

  • MTV Movie Awards 2013 | Red Carpet Fashion Round Up

It’s time again for another red carpet fashion round up. The MTV Movie Awards were held last Sunday, once dominated by that ever present vampire-film-that-shan’t-be-named the more diverse range of films means a more diverse range of looks on the red carpet, both good and bad!

    Karlie Kloss/Crystal Reed

It was neither a nominee or movie star guest that won out the best dressed for me, but model-presenter of the night Karlie Kloss. Karlie really stood out as the red carpet correspondent in an all white Cushnie et Ochs dress with sleek modern style and cut out details. Her bob goes perfectly with this and she really set the standard for the night. A close second was Teen Wolf’s Crystal Reed in a gorgeous red Nha Khanh mini. The colour goes wonderfully with her skin tone and I’m forever grateful that she pinned her hair back so we can see the pretty lace detail around the neckline. The tulle skirt is also lovely and leads well into her nude Manolo Blahniks.

The Pitch Perfect ladies were out in force, not only representing their film but performing too. As Anna Kendrick was off being a movie star and filming it was up to her fellow cast mates to hold the fort. Barden Bella’s group leader, Anna Camp, looked amazing in a simple white Herve Leger mini along with her sleek blonde hair. Her pink shoes and Jimmy Choo clutch kept this look from fading into the background. Brittany Snow also made an appearance showcasing a new blonde bob cut, which fit perfectly with her Lela Rose dress. Her new ‘do allowed her to show off the metallic shoulder pads on the dress too! Alexis Knapp also went for pink and white in a Nicola Finetti dress with a fit and flair detail on the skirt. The pattern is great here and the girly style went perfectly with her pink make up. The eccentric Hana Mae Lee wore a Hana Mae Lee LBD with cut out details around the neckline and black sandals, but it was her cigarette headpiece that got everyone talking. The whole thing felt very Lady Gaga and I’m on the fence about whether or not this works here.

I always think the MTV Movie Awards are the perfect place to go all out and this trio did just that. Kerry Washington went for a Michael Kors gown. I love the stark contrast between the black of the top half of the gown and the pop of orange of the skirt, that being said the skirt does look a little flat and could use a decent steam iron. Selena Gomez sparkled like a showgirl in a golden Julien Macdonald mini. With its fringe detailing, Selena went simple with the rest of her style with strappy sandals and plaited hairdo. And finally Melanie Iglesias also went for a glittering outfit in a white gown with both a thigh split and plunge detailing, accompanied by loosely style locks.

Two big franchise stars went for simpler looks in shades of blue. Emma Watson went for a Maxime Simoëns mini with her signature minimalistic styling. I actually love this dress, with its intricate straps and pale blue colours. Her hair is a little lacklustre – though I’ll grant the fact she’ll have been on a 7 hour flight from London prior to this. Percy Jackson star Alexandra Daddario wore a patterned Missoni mini with pointed black court shoes. The pattern on the dress is great but her shoe choice could’ve been a bit more inspiring.

The new set of young Hollywood were also very much present at the ceremony. Bella Thorne‘s Emporio Armani suit was a very risky choice for the teenage Disney actress, but she pulled this off rather well. The suit itself is well fitted and cleverly accessorised, with a very Olivia Palermo feel to her whole look. Ariana Grande went for a cutesy white mini dress, this was the kind of thing I expect Bella to be wearing. Bridgit Mendler wore a gorgeously patterned Parker dress, shame her shoes seemed to blend in with the floor.
On the other side the style stake was an unsurprisingly bad entry from Ke$ha, who looked every bit a hot mess as she usually does – I think someone online described this look as Boy George meets Courtney Love…in the worst way possible. I know Hayley Williams is a rockstar but I’m just not getting this TopShop and Zara look, in fact the only thing I like about this look is Hayley’s hair do!

Two ladies who are fans of taking risks at red carpet events. On my ‘could do better’ list was a surprising entry from Chloe Moretz. Chloe’s usually a lot more on point, but I just couldn’t get behind her denim Louis Vuitton dress. Perhaps too casual? Or a little ill-fitted? Or maybe it’s the styling? Whatever it is, it’s just not working Chloe. One the surface Zoe Saldana‘s Givenchy look is simple…until you get to the skirt of the gown. The floral/lace panel holds enough detail to keep me interested in this look, go perfectly with her black sandals and work well with Zoe’s frame.

A pretty heavily pregnant Kim Kardashian in Saint Laurent walked the red carpet too. The batwing dress was actually refreshing on the reality TV show star, a little more modest, with a simple golden necklace and sleek hair. Keep it up Kim! Holland Roden also donned black in a Donna Karen number. The plunging neckline and mesh panel on the 50’s style skirt shape showcase a modern take on the retro look….I also adore her shoes!
