BAFTAs 2013 | Red carpet fashion round up
In a rainy London the 2013 BAFTAs were held with the celebs from across the film world braving the downpour for the night! Check out some of my highlights (and low lights) from the red carpet…Easily the two best dressed for me were the ever gorgeous Marion Cotillard and Jennifer Lawrence. While others chose to mimic the grey skies over looking the Royal Opera House, these two stood out from the crowd. Marion was a welcome burst of yellow sunshine in her Dior Couture gown. Once again she shyed away from the status quo, giving us an impressive gown with unusual architecture and styled to perfection. Bravo Ms Cotillard. Jennifer was brave enough to take on white under the rainclouds – albeit sporting a winter coat outside before shedding in once in the warm. She too was wearing Dior, this time embellished with sleek hair. The beauty is in the dress’ simplicity here so a pair of jewel drop earring was all she needed. Both actresses have now set the bar for the big Oscar night – fingers crossed they don’t disappoint!Anne Hathaway paid tribute to us Brits in a sleek Burberry gown. Anne once again looks beautiful here and the embellished top and sweet pink lips keep the look interesting enough for me. Elizabeth Olsen was another favourite of mine, taking a risk with Chanel Couture gown. I have a feeling this dress will split opinion but I love it. My only niggling point would be that I wish the peplum skirt looked as full as it did on the runway.A double whammy of Elie Saab from Amy Adams and Sarah Jessica Parker. Amy wore a gorgeous black lace gown with sheer panelling. I really love this on Amy, it’s something a little different to what she usually goes for and I’m glad she wore her hair up to show off the detailing on the dress. SJP’s jumpsuit was again something a little different, but unlike Amy, SJP simply blended right into the background. You expect fabulous when Sarah hits an event like this, especially something as high profile as the BAFTAs.It wasn’t all doom, gloom and black dresses at the awards. Jessica Chastain looked stunning in a blue Roland Mouret gown. The dress itself has a slight minimalist quality about it but is styled up with old siren hair and classic red lips. Andrea Riseborough took a cue from Marion Cotillard with another bright yellow gown, this time Vivienne Westwood Couture, and like Jessica went for a classic Hollywood styling with simple jewels.Another Roland Mouret gown came from actress Jennifer Garner. With it’s architectural detailing the gown was one of the more interesting down the red carpet, and if it weren’t for Elizabeth Olsen and Marion Cotillard then she probably would’ve been high on my best dressed list. She does look great here though! Gemma Arterton also took a risk in a graphic print Celia Kritharioti mermaid dress. I’m on the fence here. It’s certainly bold but I’m left feeling the horizontal stripes look wider than usual.Helen Mirren was the talk of the BAFTAs, after debuting her soft pink hairdo. I’m still on the fence about the new look – though if anyone that age is gonna pull off pink hair it’ll be Helen Mirren – but I do love her pale blue Nicholas Oakwell Couture gown. From the embroidery to the layered skirt, it’s really beautiful. Thandie Newton equally turned heads in vampish Louis Vuitton lace number. Again the dress is gorgeous, but the hair is a little questionable, perhaps for the Grammys but not the BAFTAs.And finally two new-ish faces. Representing the Les Mis contingent with Anne, the ever beautiful Samantha Barks was taking a night off playing Nancy to arrive at the event in a Celia Kritharioti gown. The overall look is seductively sexy, but the cleavage may be a little too much on this occasion.Winner of the rising star award Juno Temple looked very polished in Stella McCartney. This is the best I’ve seen Juno look on the red carpet, rising star indeed!Keep on wishing…R.xoxo -
Screen Actors Guild Awards 2013 | Red carpet fashion round up
After a mini week break I’m back and reporting on the red carpet looks from the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards. I was again pleasantly surprised with many of the looks at this event and have highlighted some of the best and not-so-fab looks of the night.
Best dressed for me came from someone who usually just manages to slip by as a well done and I certainly must have a thing for big princess gowns at the moment considering who my favourite at the Globes was. Marion Cotillard looked stunning in a navy and white Pre-Fall 2013 Christian Dior gown, the whole look was perfectly styled from her diamond necklace, pointed pumps and sleek bob cut. She looked the epitome of Parisian chic to me. I deliberated this next spot but Jennifer Garner was the close second on the night in a glittering gold Oscar De La Renta gown, with lightly styled waves she was proof was sometimes less is more when it comes to looking great. It seems like navy blue was the unofficial dress code on the night with three of the award’s biggest stars turning up in the same shade. Jennifer Lawrence greatly improved on her Globes look in a beautiful Christian Dior down…only for it to wardrobe malfunction whilst recieving her award! Oops! Nicole Kidman seems to be on a winning streak at the moment and really caught my eye in an embellished and embroidered Vivienne Westwood gown. And finally Amanda Seyfried opted for a fishtail Zac Posen look with sleek Hollywood hair.Tween Hollywood definitely gaves some of the veterans a run for their money. Ariel Winter once again looked utterly grown up in a very pretty Alex Perry gown with embroidered floral details along her shoulders and down the dress. Emma-Watson-a-like and Mad Men ministar Keirnan Shipka wore an enchanting little Oscar De La Renta tea dress. She’s slowly taking Chloe Moretz spot of best dressed blonde starlet in my heart and has amazing poise for one so young. The Glee contigent were out in force on the night with pretty much all of the main cast, plus some newbies out on the red carpet (sans Dianna Agron *sobs*). Best dressed from the group for me was actually Jayma Mays. Jayma usually blends behind the likes of Naya and Lea but she really shone in a white Georges Hobeika gown – feeling a little inspired by your wedding storyline Jayma? Second was the infinitely fierce Naya Rivera, her Donna Karen gown was actually one of the first I spotted at the event and it’s totally Naya. Sleek, sexy with vintage inspired hair!A surprising let down from Lea Michelle, her Valentino gown is beautiful, but with the styling and compared to the other ladies on the night she was kinda okay (her lovely date Corey Monteith on the other hand looked very handsome). Looks like neither Lea or her Glee alter-ego aren’t in my good books at the moment. Jenna Ushkowitz was another one who was a miss for me. I had hope she’d step up to the plate as one of the show’s new lead stars but her gothic inspired Rebecca Minkoff gown and Michelle-a-like hair was not good. Hope came in the form of two actresses who’s characters are like rays of sunshine on the show. Heather Morris really improved this year in a beautifully detailed Gomez-Garcia gown and newbie Vanessa Lengies wore one of my favourite Marchesa gowns. Two ladies who improved upon their Globes looks were Jessica Chastin and Kelly Osbourne. Jessica went back to her failsafe Alexander McQueen mix and look fabulous for it – who says red heads can’t pull of red gowns?! Despite my urge to dye the whole of Kelly Osbourne’s hair to something remotely normal looking I actually didn’t mind her Jenny Packham gown, had her hair been less grey-purple I may be more impressed. It always makes me sad to see actresses who are so usually on point with their style fall flat at these events. Which is why is pains me so to put Anne Hathaway and January Jones so low on my list. After an impressive Globes look Anne simply melted into the background in her Giambattisa Valli Couture gown, she looks beautiful, the gown is beautiful but she just didn’t shine as much as her Chanel look from a few weeks ago. Fingers crossed for better BAFTAs/Oscar looks!Maybe it’s the pressure of playing such a stylish character but I really wasn’t a fan of January’s Prabal Gurung look. The styling was odd and so was her hair, which is a shame as I’m usually fawning hard over this designer’s gowns. Not wanting to end this on a negative note! Michelle Dockery is slowly becoming the rising star of this year’s awards show season. She looked amazing in a Chado Ralph Rucci gown, with its sheer side panelling, minimal style and side swept hair, her whole look is subtley sexy and rather refined. Nina Dobrev brought out some colour at the ceremony is an Elie Saab gown in hot pink. Again the key to this winning look is simplicity, with only her small glittering jewels and clutch, Nina lets the dress do the talking.
So, favourite looks? Any I missed? Let me know!

In A League Of Her Own | Charlene Kaye
Image via ShervinFotoBlog Long time readers will know of my affinity with a certain group of Internet creatives called Team Starkid. Though my obsession for them knows no bounds, it’s certainly not limited to their crazy skits and infamous affiliation with the Potter franchise but also their equally talented friends. And those who know of Team Starkid’s antics will know all about, Charlene Kaye.Charlene is a Hawaiian born singer songwriter, hailing from New York, has build herself up through the Internet music scene with her unique blend of indie-pop. Her music is an infusion of electro synths, rip-roaring guitar riffs and catchy, yet beautifully woven lyrics, all topped off with her commanding soulful voice. She’s a blend of both classic and contemporary, who sounds just as good live as on her records (well from what I’ve seen and heard from YouTube she has!). With buddies like Team Starkid and Glee’s Darren Criss, her talent has taken her across America and has gained an underground legion of fans from across the globe – including little ol’ me!In action: (from top left) singing with good friend Darren Criss; with her GnR tribute band Guns and Hoses; performing with her back up band The Brilliant Eyes and Starkid’s Dylan SaundersNot only a multifaceted musician, to say she’s a sharp dresser would be a complete understatement. Her personal style, much like her music, is completely unique. From her Bowie-esque turns in the ‘Animal Love 1’ music video to sleek yet elegant in ‘Forever Is A Long Time‘ and ‘Human‘; to a complete grunge make-over whilst in her side band ‘Guns & Hoses’; to cute and preppy in ‘Dress & Tie‘; and even 40’s fabulous in ‘Mad Tom of Bedlam‘. She’s an eccentric to the core.*all images sourced via Pinterest & Tumblr (disclaimer)Keep on wishing…R.xoxo
