    6 June InstaLife

    Soundtrack: Hurricane by Halsey

You’d never be able to tell from these Instagram photos, but it has been a tempestuous month to say the least. It may have been partially down to the goddamn horrific bout of hay fever/cold I’ve managed to get this year, but I also feel like my brain gave up on me and I lost my enthusiasm to do anything really. It probably didn’t help that I freaked out a little bit that I’ve basically been living independently for 6 months without realising and got a little homesick and felt a bit isolated for the first time. After promising to make June a month I ‘get up and do’ I didn’t really ‘do’ anything, which in turn kinda made me feel a bit bleh.

This past week I took some time out, got back into reading, spent some time just writing – both blog related content and working on my writing projects, also decided to go off the grid every so often (I went and hid away in cafes a lot the past few weeks). I seem to have come out of the end of this ‘funk’ relatively unscathed this time. I’ve tried being a bit more introspective, reconnected with some friends, got Jo Rowling to give me a pep talk, and did a bit of evening yoga/meditation/breathing exercises (I may expand on this part of my ‘relaxation’ routine in a future post). I also wrote a post that had been stirring up inside me for a while about the blogging community. In a way it was that post that gave me a bit of perspective and I’m ready to delve back into the community again.

July is shaping up to be much better with visits from friends, the start of Camp NaNoWriMo (which I’m a so ready, excited and not dreading for once!) and YALC toward the end of the month. Then of course August has me leaving UK shores for Rome with the famalam, before the promise of my favourite season of all Autumn! (Can you tell I’m already so over Summer already? LoL).

I also have to remember that some really great stuff did actually happen this month – hello, I got to go to a preview screening for Paper Towns, saw John, Cara and Nat in le flesh and met E. Lockhart. And now? Well, I guess now I’m back and feeling fresher than I have before, the good stuff I mentioned should certainly serve as a reminder I need to remember the good times instead of focusing on the negative, right?

    5 April InstaLife

    Soundtrack: Ordinary Day: Vanessa Carlton

Is it bad I can’t really remember what actually happened this month?

I feel like I did a lot this May but that I also basically did nothing whatsoever as well. I suppose after a birthday month I tend to retreat back into my shell a bit – both physically (hello weekend duvet days!) and mentally (the introvert in me basically goes ’NOPE you’re staying and watching Netflix today). It probably didn’t help that I was basically recovering from the worst cold ever coming off the back of my birthday and my brain kinda just went into work/home routine mode for a few weeks.

Despite the absolute boring-ness of my own life, I feel like a lot has happened in terms of the outside world (Elections and Eurovision…tom-ato tom-A-to, am I right?) and the ‘fandom/internet world’ (BEA, BookCon, and Bad Blood, Oh My!). I also went to MCM Comic Con, which was so awesome and so exhausting, but conventions always manage to reignite my love of everything unashamedly nerdy. Also In slightly less exciting news, I’ve been totally engrossed in a brand new writing project (you can follow my brain ramblings concerning that on The Unabridged Writer) and have gotten back into writing bits and pieces for Feminist In Training too (I have one or two posts queued up so keep your eyes peeled, I wrote a piece about the new Supergirl TV show yesterday).

Back in the real world, after speaking to a few friends lately I’ve definitely got ideas for exciting plans, so I feel I need to make June the month to get those in place and happening. Aside from that I’m trying to brace myself for what could be the most depressing anniversary ever *cough* it’s been a year since I was in NYC – I CRY *cough*, but I’m also trying to keep optimistic. We’re on the cusp of Summer and as it’s my first trying to navigate this weird ol’ world of graduate/adult life. I wanna try and make it a good one. There’s definitely a promise of more conventions, meet ups, and hey, ROME in August…so yeah, silver lining after a bit of a ‘meh’ kinda May. *does happy dance*

p.s. sorry for this super ramble-y post, sometimes you just gotta word vomit a blog post now and then and hope for the best I guess? Congrats for making it through this if you have *hugs*

Guys April was busyyyyy – well, at least busy in my own way. I’ve been cooking and baking and Spring cleaning and travelling and socialising…And I think my body took a hit at the end of the month and basically went ‘Hey Ria, you need some R&R. Here’s a nice dose of the flu’. Fun times! (more…)
