  • 2013 New Year’s Style Resolutions Revisited

Well hello! I’m back after a break and hastily wrapping up the year (in between working flat out at my part time job! Gotta love Sale season!).
If you can cast your mind back as far as last January, as per tradition, I set up 5 style resolutions for the year. A lot has definitely changed since then, but let’s see how I got on with them…
    2013 resolutions revisited Get Creative
    #1 Get Creative.
When I set this goal I was mid-way through my Placement year and was stuck in a style rut. I wanted to branch out a little from the usual office wear but also needed to bear in mind the fact I’d be working in a very formal setting. Never the less I did experiment a little bit with my work wear and changing offices (and therefore getting rid of my long commute) definitely helped. My style choices didn’t break boundaries but I had a bit more fun with what I wore during my last few months! Check out my year in workwear round up to get the full scoop on the whole year’s retrospective!
    2013 resolutions revisited Beauty Buys
    #2 Beauty buys
Oh yes, I can tick this one off for sure. 2013 was the year I got addicted to beauty bloggers/vloggers and those ladies had me lusting over beauty products like coffee in the morning. I’ve done some beauty posts and reviews this year and I also, for the first time ever, had a set morning beauty routine and favourite products, which I may post about at some point in the future.
    #3 Size up
I think I nailed this one too? I’ve accepted my shape and size for the first time ever, and am sticking to clothes I’m actually comfortable in for once. It’s helped that I’ve been able to veer back into my casual wear since being back at Uni – oversized t-shirt and jumpers! Yay! – but I’m consciously looking for the right sizes in shops now. This also includes footwear – which my feet are grateful for!
    2013 resolutions revisited Fancy footwork
    #4 Fancy footwork
I’m giving myself a 50% on this. Like I said above I’m wearing the right sizes now and am shopping for comfort but I’m still a sucker for cheap and pretty shoes. Ah well…
    2013 resolutions revisited WWED
    #5 What would Dianna do?…And Emma…And Taylor…
Another 50% here? This one was pretty hard to judge, because to me, I simple don’t have these ladies wardrobes *le sigh*. I do feel like I’ve adopted a more preppy edge to my wardrobe, a la Emma/Taylor, and do think I favour more ‘classic’ looking pieces now rather than adopting the latest trends. Though I’m putting that more to age than anything :P
So there we go 3/4-ish out of 5 resolutions isn’t too bad right? Keep an eye out for my 2014 list in the next few days ;)

  • 2013 New Year’s Style Resolutions

Happy New Year! It’s that time again to start afresh and anew with some fashion goals…
    #1 Get creative
    Resolution work wear
So I managed to get a placement and have start building up a decent work wardrobe…the problem? It’s getting a little dulls. All black trousers and blouses and pencil skirts and cardigans. I have a few outfits I’ve been pretty happy pulling out of the bag but it’s time to start thinking creatively now. I know the work environment well by this point so I know my boundaries in terms of style, eccentricity and comfort – no Jeffery Campbell Lolitas to the office! – so it’s time to really start looking and having a bit more fun.
    #2 Beauty buys
    Resolution beauty
I really got into reading beauty blogs and watching tutorials on YouTube this year, which has inspired me to become a little more adventurous and informed about my beauty routine. I’m not usually one to experiment too much with make up, but have started trying and testing which products are right for me. So this is definitely something I’d like to keep up in 2013! Who knows maybe I’ll have a set beauty routine for the first time in my life?
    #3 Size up
    Resolution label
I’m notorious for sticking to what’s on the dress label rather than actually trying to go a fit that well…fits. I’ve finally acknowledged that my body shape has changed and I do want to make sure the clothes I’m buying actually fit me – not make myself do this the other way around. Sure it would be nice to think I’ll be that so-called perfect size 8, but shouldn’t wearing clothes you’re actually comfortable with be the main goal here? I’m also a sucker for thinking I’m a bigger shoes size that I am – a diddy size 3 – so want to invest time and effort into getting shoes that fit.
    #4 Fancy footwork
    Resolution shoes
Linked with number #3. Shoes are on my agenda this year. They need to be comfortable, they need to be practical, they need to be awesome looking, and they need to last. This is the mantra I want to follow every time I buy a pair of shoes from now on. No more of this buying heels I’ll never wear or ballet flats that fall apart after two weeks.
    #5 What would Dianna do?…And Emma…And Taylor…

Because not all of my resolutions should be practical, this year I’m looking to my favourite style stars for inspiration. Emma Stone, Dianna Agron and Taylor Swift are all acting as my 3 muses for 2013, for their ability to take a classic look and give it a modern twist.

So there we have it! 5 style resolutions for 2013, time to get cracking now.
So what about you guys? What are your vowing to do this year? Comment below and let me know :)

  • 2012 New Year’s Style Resolutions revisited

Remember this? This was my second year setting Style Resolutions and I think I fared a little better this year…

    #1 Business attire

    ReviewWorkwear
I think I hit the nail on the head with this one. Since starting placement I’ve also started my ‘A Year In Work Wear’ daily diary on Instagram and I’m pretty sure I keep this up until my contract finishes next year. I’m still testing out the ropes though, I know I can be a bit more creative but I like the challenge of trying to be practical, stylish yet professional at work!

    #2 Good quality basic wardrobe
    ReviewBasic
Eh…I kinda did this I guess. I’ve gotten a few bits here and there, Zara basics, a new wool winter coat from Forever 21 etc but I could’ve done better. My failure on this part was probably due to wanting to save for other things rather then spend on clothes this year – shocking I know! This will be one to bring back in 2013 I think.

#3 Find the perfect leather bag

    ReviewLeatherBag
Ok this was a definite fail. None the less I have two fab bags, from New Look and Urban Outfitters respectively that have that leather look and have kept up appearances since I’ve gotten them, so not so much of a failure…either that or I’m subconsciously pining over a Knomo tote.

    #4 Experiment with hairstyles/accessories
    ReviewHair
This was the second year I tried to do this and I’ve failed once again, simply due to lack of time to even do my hair. That being said, I’m taking much better care of my hair than I did before, especially when it comes to heat styling it. This is probably a resolution that should be laid to rest if I’m honest…
    #5 Invest in independent retailers

    ReviewHandmade
A half done one because most of my support has been done off camera. Even if I didn’t blog about it, I did spend more time taking on the world of Etsy for unique presents. I managed to get two posts out about independent boutiques and my giveaway showcased a lovely handmade necklace from LauraLoves. The foundations are laid for this one, I’m much more enthusiastic to find and spend on independent retailers than I was pre-2012!

So not too bad, a lot of these ended up as half done. But at least I tried! Look out in the New Year for a new set of resolutions for 2013!
    Keep on wishing…
