Travels: Portobello and Covent Garden during London 2012
– Portobello Market sign – pretty houses (mine will look like this one day!) – musician busking – Goldsmith’s vintage – old books – vintage cameras – Alice’s Antiques – Olympic & Paralympic flags in Covent Garden – street performers in the square –As well as enjoying the spirit of the Olympic Park at the Paralympics, I also spent some time with my family exploring London itself. I was surprised to hear that despite having lived there for a while when I was a toddler, my parents had never ventured to Portobello Road.My fashion blogger senses kicked into high gear here and I was pretty excited to explore. Portobello is located in West London in the Notting Hill area. Near to such up-market neighbourhoods as Kensington and Chelsea the area was, of course lovely to walk around. I lusted and fawned over the pretty painted houses along the first part of the road before finally hitting the market streets.Portobello Road Market is a decent mix of good ol’ British market stalls, cool vintage and second hand items. The streets are lined with antiques stores and stalls selling everything from jewellery to painting to crockery. I even spotted a giant mounted moose head in one of the shops. Part of the road is taken up by a generous helping of food and produce stalls selling freshly made goodies to munch on whilst you trawl on up the road. The fashion is what draws in the hipster crowds with small boutiques and vintage stores further up the road. The street culminates in flea market stalls, selling at charity shop bargain prices – I’m talking three tops for £2 at one stall. Of course the trick is spotting the gems, which is possible should you have enough time to trawl the whole day (which I unfortunately didn’t).The rest of our day was spent in one of my favourite places in London, Covent Garden. It all Olympic flagged up when we arrived and we took a break to enjoy the street performers and gorge on some crepes.I was a little sad to head back to our hotel knowing that was our last day there, though Wagamama’s in the evening certainly made up for it. I’ll definitely have to have another head round (hopefully when the weather’s nice and dry) to have a proper dig around.Keep on wishing…R.xoxo -
Travels: London 2012 Paralympics
– Greeted by fluttering flags – Collage of my time at the park, in the Aquatics Centre, joining the crowds & flying the flag for Team GB – Our view of the Stadium – All smiles in the sunshine – Panoramic view of part of the park – Storms clouds a-brewing but that didn’t stop us having fun! –A few choice photos from the Paralympic Games. Me and my family headed up on the first day of the Games to spend the morning watching and supporting the athletes in the Aquatics Centre. Though quite a trek to get up to our seats the overall atmosphere during our session was great. There were, obviously, big cheers for Team GB and we even got to see Jonathan Fox break his own World Record in his first heat. The second morning was spent in the Olympic Stadium, which looked just as impressive in real life as on the TV screen and our view was incredible. We saw long jumps, track events and shot put events in our morning session. We also had the privilege of watching three medal ceremonies, took part in a stadium wide Mexican wave and cheered with the crowd, waving our Union flags. On both days we had a wander around the enormous park. I had to admit I was pleasantly surprised the park so very crowded with spectators from all over the world. The whole spirit of the Games was just infectious and it was great seeing so many people just as excited as we were to be there.I can’t be the only one who felt a little sad watching the Paralympic Closing Ceremony last Sunday, it seems like everyone has gone back to reality now that London 2012 has finished. I am glad I got to go down there while I had the chance.Anyone wanna save up for Rio with me? ;)Keep on wishing…R.xoxo -

My, my I’ve been a busy bee. With the Bank Holiday and my mini break to London with the family I only really had two days at work! Those who follow me on twitter know that I headed up to Thursday to watch the Paralympic Games.
Thursday’s morning session was spent high up in the Aquatics Centre watching some what’s swimmers, including Team GB’s Jon Fox (who broke his own world record time whilst we were there). The rest of the day was spent exploring the park. It wasn’t till later on did we realise we were stood outside of the Velodrome when Ms Kate Middleton was sat inside watching the action! So near yet so far :P A combination of a very early start and being on our feet for most of the day meant we all collapsed into bed once we got to the hotel.
Day 2 was just as exciting as we joined the crowds to fill up the Olympic Stadium. It actually looked a lot bigger on the TV, but at least this meant we could see more of the athletics better. The atmosphere was amazing! I want to do a much bigger post on my time in the park, I took some decent panoramic photos on my phone (I didn’t even realise I could do that!) that I want to share. After the antics in the
park we headed over to Westfield Stratford for some window and actual shopping. I got to browse through Forever 21 for the first time ever (shocking I know) and pretty much fell in love with everything in there. I’ll definitely need to plan a trip up there either before Christmas or during the January sales. Our third day in London was spent shopping, again, this time in Portobello Market in Notting Hill. Again, I’ll do a much bigger post because I loved it there. The afternoon was then spend chilling out in Covent Garden and eating my weight in food. The belated nature of this post is mainly due to how tired I was after travelling back home yesterday. I got home and just caught up on Internet bits – no decent wifi in my hotel! tragic stuff =P.Something I’m very excited about
what’s happening a year away is that I’ll be officially heading to LeakyCon in London! For those of you who don’t know, a basic description of LeakyCon is that it’s a fan convention dedicated primarily to Harry Potter, but has evolved to include things like The Hunger Games, Team Starkid, YouTube stars etc. Nerdy stuff I know but I’m so pumped to be going next year, there also a small possibility I may get to meet a couple of the Harry Potter actors there too ;)Also have to thank my lovely friend Kath for signing us up for registration and tickets for the event, I do believe it was the most stressful thing in the world but so worth it.Essay over and out =P Look out for some little London posts this week!
