With 2012 coming to a close it’s definitely time to reflect on the past year’s red carpet fashion, so I thought I’d showcase my favourite breakout style stars of 2012. For me, these seven ladies really stood out from the crowd this year and made their mark on the red carpet, leaving me excited to see what they have up their sleeves in 2013!
First up, someone very new to the game, Holland Roden. The Teen Wolf actress first caught my eye on the TCA red carpet line up in her Alice + Olivia dress and has been on point with her style since. She’s so far opted for fairly safe options with classic styling but with Teen Wolf gaining cult momentum, I’m hoping we’ll see more of her in the New Year.
With the focus usually on her co-star Zooey Deschanel, Hannah Simone was a pleasant surprise to see rise up amongst the best dressed at events. With her poker straight hair and sleek minimalist looks, she’s nailed her signature style early on and I’m looking forward to seeing whether she’ll start to experiment with her style next year.
Oh Ms Lawrence. Arguably the biggest breakout actress in the past year with the release of The Hunger Games, Jennifer Lawrence really took on the red carpet by storm this year. Though not always on point with her style, what I love about Jennifer is that she loves to experiment with her looks. Whether slightly gothic with poker straight hair or glamed up old Hollywood style, it’s really great to see someone in Young Hollywood having fun with changing up their look.
You may be wondering why Ginnifer Goodwin is on my list as a newbie, when she’s really a red carpet veteran. Well 2012 seemed to be the year she really pushed herself into the deep end of fashion. This year Ginnifer caught my attention at pretty much every event she went to and I’m always consistently surprised with her versatility – especially considering her pixie crop hairdo.
Another veteran Elizabeth Banks really stepped up alongside Jennifer Lawrence during The Hunger Games promo tour. A style chameleon, much luke Ms Lawrence, Elizabeth was a joy to watch out for and left you guessing what look she was going to go for next. I even dedicated a post to her on here!
With the Olympics coverage plastered on every screen around the world, there was only one woman who captured the hearts of the nation. Jessica Ennis not only proved to be a gold medal winning champion, but also no amateur to dressing well on the red carpet. I’m finding it wonderful that she shows so much support for British designers such as Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen, and it’s so refreshing to see such a positive role model on the red carpet.
And finally, a lady who really made her debut during the January awards season, Jessica Chastin captured my heart this year. Her red carpet formula has been fairly classic thus far, so I’m hoping she doesn’t slip into a failsafe category of dressing.
Keep on wishing…
