    Community

    I have such a sentimental place in my heart for Community. The fast moving, witty comedy centred around a study group of misfits at a Community college, is now well into its sixth season which means you have so much to binge watch if you haven’t gotten into the show yet. Full of ridiculous storylines and humour to keep you laughing for days, Community is a fantastic show to add to your ‘To Watch’ list and will remain a classic for years to come. With it’s 20 minute episodes and laid-back story arcs, it’s also an easy show to hop in and out of and a great one to pick up at any point.

    White Collar

    Another long running series centred on the ever charming and oh-so-handsome Matt Bomer. White Collar follows the story of Neal Caffrey (Bomer), an conman who escapes federal prison after serving a four year sentence. He’s captured again by Peter Burke, the FBI agent who caught him four years ago, but instead of sending him back to jail Burke has a proposal…earn his freedom by working for the FBI’s white collar crime unit, where Burke will utilise Neal’s ‘special skills’ in high-end crime and forgery to help catch some notorious criminals. Caffrey agrees to the arrangement and the two embark on the most unconventional ‘buddy cop’ drama on screen.

    If you’re a fan of Catch Me If You Can, this is basically like a 21st Century version of that. Despite the crime-drama premise the storylines are good fun and both Neal and Peter definitely don’t seriously. It’s also a brilliant peek into the glamourous world of high-end crime.

  • Beauty | Barry M Speedy Quick Dry Nails Review

    I’m sure every blogger and their mother has blogged about these polishes, but I need to rave review this ok? As I said you’ve probably seen these brilliant Speedy Barry M Quick Dry polishes floating around the blogsphere and in the shops lately with it’s nicely themed racer striped tops.

    I adore the angled brush, it makes application so much easier as it reaches right into the corners of the nail. Consistency-wise it’s is pretty much in line with other Barry M polishes (a little thinner than a gel lines). Even with two coats, it does live up to it’s promise and dries up super quick, which is perfect for last minute nail decisions for a night out (or if you’re just super impatient like me).
    The only flaw I’ve picked up whilst using these is that if left unattended it chips quite easily. I have worked in a top coat which keeps it going for a while longer but that obviously doesn’t dry as quick!

    The ranges comes in 15 Summer-y shades, but I picked up a trio of gorgeous pastel colours. The pale blue (‘Eat My Dust’) is a fantastic everyday shade that’s become my go-to recently. There’s also a dreamy lilac (‘Pit Stop’), which again is great for day-to-day wear and has a slight ‘greige’ tint to it. Finally there’s a lighter orange shade (‘Full Throttle’), which is like a less daunting alternative to that covetable corals and tangerines most people veer to at this time of year. All three will carry you throughout the year to be honestly especially the cooler shades.

    And in terms of prices, it’s very hard to go wrong with Barry M, you get what you pay for really and there’s always offers on if you want to try out a couple of shades!

  • An Ode To Independent Magazines

    There’s no denying the print magazine industry is in a slight decline. Even publications like Vogue seem to be struggling as they turn to digital subscriptions and boosting their online presence to boost sales.

    I guess in some ways we’re partially to blame. As both a blog reader and avid social media user, I rarely get my news or fashion/beauty fix in print anymore. Why would I splash out when I can get my content pretty much for free online? I had admittedly fallen out of love with the printed medium and rarely actually pick up a copy of Glamour or Elle anymore – if I do it’s normally because I’m swayed if one of my faves is the cover star.

    I am slowly reginiting my love for print though thanks to independent magazines. It’s a slow crawl but like other ‘lost’ art forms (podcasts, crafting, vinyls etc.) they’re experiencing somewhat of a comeback. Publications like Oh Comely or Kinfolk are thriving, as are a number of other niche titles. There seems to be an allure to what’s being created. Pickier magazine readers are seeking something individual and more cutting edge, others may have also grown bored of seeing the same high street top in every ‘glossy’.
