  • Leaving The Nest | I’m Moving To Oxford!

    moving_oxford

I’ve been keeping this quiet for the past few weeks whilst I process everything in my head and try and sort my life out. But I’m really excited to announce that I’ll flying the nest and moving away from home this January to Oxford!

I’ve been fortunate enough to secure a really great job opportunity in the city, so will be taking a big step into adulthood and am relocating in the new year. If you guys remember my University experience post you’ll remember I never did the whole ‘moving out at 18 for Uni’ thing, so the prospect of moving away from my family home all on my own for the first time is both exciting and utterly daunting to me. As much as I consider myself to be a pretty independent person and, as a kid, moved to and from places at least three times before the age of 10, I’ve never really known life away from my family. It’s going to be a big upheaval in terms of living situation, my career, and I’ll moving away from some of my closest friends, and that’s a little terrifying.

But, even though I am sh*t scared of having to manage my own rent/money/life for the first time, I’m equally excited that I’ll be doing those things and more to boot. Oxford is a fantastic town with some serious historical clout, beautiful architecture and rich culture – and book shops! So so many pretty book shops ^_^ It’s also not so far away from home that I’ll get homesick or miss my family too much, but also close enough to day trip it London and elsewhere in the UK too. Not to mention the fact that moving out means clearing out the junk and indulging in a little home decor shopping and new work wardrobe.

So that’s the huge upheaval IRL, but what does that mean for this little corner of the Internet? Well, hopefully not that much as drastic change and I will be scheduling some new year’s posts ahead of time whilst I sort the whole – y’know – finding somewhere to live malarky. But with a new town and potentially fresh opportunities, I’m hoping this will not only be a fresh start for me but an exciting new start for the blog as you come along with me for the ride :)

And, of course, if any of you bloggers out there are reading this and are based in or around Oxford area let me know! (let’s be friends ;P)

  • Normcore | The best part of the 90s fashion revival

    Normcore-style

It’s the been the surprise trend of the year, but it looks like the 90’s fashion revival is definitely here to stay for the long haul (at least until the inevitable 70s hippie revival in Spring 2015).

I’ve been wanting to write about the revival, as a child of the 90s, as it’s just so so weird for the fashion from that generation to now be on it’s way back into circulation much in the same way my parents find it weird every time the 70s or 80s revivals come round every few seasons (sorry Mum just gave your age away a lil’ bit). I also keep calling it a revival as I point blank refuse to be considered retro or, dare I say it, vintage *shudders*. There’s been a few trends from this era I just can’t trust myself to get behind again – *shudders again at the thought of plastic choker necklaces and brown lip liner* – but Normcore is the one I can totally advocate.

    Normcore-inspiration-board

According to Vogue, Normcore “…is all about anonymous, detail-free design” and the trend agency K-Hole, who were the first to coin the phrase, define the Normcore movement as moving “…away from a coolness that relies on difference to a post-authenticity that opt into sameness”. Well, that’s all good and well, but what does that all mean to us, the everyday fashion wearing public?

Though similar to minimalism – which in itself stems from more ‘futuristic’ cuts – Normcore embraces the everyday and even dull day-to-day basics. The 90’s-ness of this trend seems to have stemmed from The Gap aesthetic of a mix of casual slouchy lounge wear and most of Monica and Rachel’s wardrobes in Friends, with the 2014 remix born from New York cool. And whilst some may shy away from wanting to revisit those high waisted denim jeans of the past, but the 2014 version of this style has been given a new lease of life thanks to flag bearers like Cara Delevigne and seems to have been happily embraced by many in the blogging community.

Personally I love it. It’s all the simple-ness of minimalism mixed with an everyday accessibility, and with it’s focus on quality basic pieces it’s fitting with the switch in my mindset to reach for that dream capsule wardrobe.

So what do you guys think of Normcore?

A flash fashion trend? Or a staple mindset that’s here to stay?

  • Wishlist | Lush Bath Stuff

    Lush-wishlist1
top left-right (clockwise): – Northern Lights // Fairy Ring // Comforter // Father Christmas // Honey Bee // You’ve Been Mangoed // Magic Wand // Mmmelting Marshmallow Moment // Space Girl

In the words of Ms. Sylvia Plath “There must be quite a few things a hot bath won’t cure, but I don’t know many of them.” As the nights draw ever darker and the winter cold on British shores, surely there’s no better way to relax after a tough week at work than a cosy bubble bath.

I don’t know why I’ve suddenly developed this love for Lush recently but I’m gunning for a bath bomb shopping spree at some point before Christmas. I spotted the ‘You’ve Been Mangoed’ and ‘Mmmelting Marshmallow Moment’ bath melts in store a few weeks ago and they both look heavenly, the ‘You’ve been Mangoed’ also smells like Summer in a bath melt. Am so also keen to try out Northern Lights at some point after spying some videos of people testing it out, the colours looks amazing when you drop it in!

Also just for the fun of it I’ve popped in some of the bubble bars and bath bombs I’ve been eyeing up including some of the Lush Christmas themed bits and blogger favourites like their ‘Comforter‘  Bubble Bar.
