  • The Screen Actor’s Guild Awards 2012 – Red Carpet Round-Up part 1

This marks my first year covering the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards, but I couldn’t resist a red carpet round up when so many starlets greatly improved upon their Golden Globes looks!
My top two looks from the evening come two actresses staring in The Help. Emma Stone stepped out in Alexander McQueen, once again looking flawless (seriously I wanna shake her stylist’s hand every time she walks the red carpet). Then Best Actress winner Viola Davis is a vision in an angelic white Marchesa gown. These two women not only show some personality in their styling but are proof that staying classy always looks great on awards night.

Speaking of improvements. Michelle Williams really caught my eye this time around in a red hot Valentino look with lace inserts. Some may say she was still playing it safe, but Michelle is never one to parade herself like her on-screen alter ego Marilyn. She definitely stood out from the crowd this time around compared to her Golden Globes gown.

Bring some va va voom to the red carpet were Sophia Vergara and Amber Heard. Sticking to her trusted formula of a figure hugging, but flattering, Marchesa gown and simple jewels, Sophia worked that red carpet. Whereas Amber left some room for imagination in her panelled Zac Posen, looking very Scarlet Johanssen-like.

Pale pastels were a big trend at the SAG’s. Here we have Berenice Bejo in glittering Ralph Lauren, a slightly disappointing looks from Tilda Swinton in Lanvin (hopefully she’ll step it up for The Oscars), a stunning looking Kristen Wiig in Balenciaga (though I’m still on the fence about her wearing a choker with this), and a much improved look from Kelly Osbourne in Badgley Mischka

Keep an eye out for Part 2!
  • This Week…

    29.01.2012

    1.Shameless posing :P
2.But seriously I had to suit up for a presentation at Uni this week. What I wore: Blazer [H&M], Top [New Look], Smart trousers [Miss Selfridge], I’m particularly chuffed with the smart skinny fit trousers I found in Miss Selfridge. Not only are they the fit I’ve been looking for for months, but they’re petite length [so it actually fits me] AND they were in the sale for £12!
3.Also shoes from New Look :)
4.Soap & Glory Hand Food and new lipstick
5.This is the colour I got [Boots Natural Collection in ‘Caramel’]. I’m adding a beauty resolution to try wearing lipsticks. Currently starting with this safer colour, I’m hoping to go for darker and bolder shades as the year goes on [fingers crossed].
6.Also had a mini book splurge last Friday on two new books: Will Grayson/Will Grayson by John Green & David Levithan, The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan.
7.And cos my Friday nights are so hardcore :P I started Will Grayson with a hot chocolate and the new Glee songs from next Tuesday’s ‘Michael’ episode. Nerd heaven!
8.Elle arrived on Saturday morning and I think this might be the last in my subscription :( Alexa Chung is on the cover [for the 3rd time I believe], don’t her legs just go on forever!
9.Also pretty happy it came with Soap & Glory’s Thick and Fast Mascara. I’ve been dying to try some of the make up from this range for ages.

It’s been an odd week. The first half was pretty chilled, I only had to prep for my last assessed presentation and sort out some placement applications again. Thursday was spent gossiping with two friends from my old theatre group over pizza. Then Friday was my final trip into Uni for January exam period, I got caught in a hailstorm and was wearing ballet flats…not happy. Then this weekend has pretty much been spent catching up on blogs, sorting out my iTunes library and getting ready to start Semester 2 of University.
If I’m honest I’ll be happy to actually have some routine in my life again, even if it means studying and lots of stress. I can’t seem to be productive when I’m just stuck at home doing nothing for a month lol.
  • Golden Globes 2012 – Red Carpet Fashion Round-Up part 2

Part 2 of my Golden Globe red carpet round up…

If there was one set of ladies I was looking forward to seeing at this awards show, it was the Glee ladies [surprise, surprise].
Dianna Agron’s Giles gown, much like Emma Stone, was the cause of many headaches for me. One on hand, I don’t think there is any actress as stunning looking as Dianna, her hair and make up was flawless; the gown itself is gorgeous with it’s sculptured swan design on the bodice and intricate lace tiered cutouts. This look should be a match made in heaven, but something just doesn’t sit right with me. Maybe it’s the fit? Or her height? Or maybe the tiers just don’t sit right? Either way I’ve spent way too much time trying to convince myself that this look was incredible, but when you compare it to last year’s Golden Globe’s look? I hate to say it but it’s only…okay [God it kills me to say that]
Lea Michele seemed to have co-ordinated with her co-star [but let’s not get into Faberry/Achele on this blog]. Lea glittered in a very risque Marchesa gown with an amazing embroidered bodice. She looked amazing, kept jewellery and styling simple. The dress speaks for itself here.

Amber Riley and Naya Rivera were the only other two Glee girls in attendance on the red carpet this year. Amber blew me away here in Badgley Mischka, simple, red hot and fabulous. Naya tried something a little different in a high collar Vera Wang gown. This is probably the best shot of it, which I think says something about her choice here. Naya has a bold and brash personality and I wish her dress choice was so…well dull.  Kudos to her for stepping out of the box, but try a little harder next time Naya.

A surprise favourite for me was Evan Rachel Wood. Her peacock inspired Gucci Premiere gown was pretty break-taking, from the plunging neckline, to the shimmering fish scales down towards the feathered tail. Just like a peacock she strutted the red carpet with her head held high with minimal make up. Beautiful!

It wasn’t all about the acting talent on the night. Madonna picked up an award for Best Original Song for her film W.E in a Reem Acra gown. The gowns something a little different for the singer and it’s not as horrendous as some of the other red carpet photos made it out to look. I’m glad I found this photo though, my one gripe about her styling was the fingerless black glove on her right hand [conveniently hidden behind her skirt here].

Blue was a big trend this year, but there was more than one way of working it. Kelly Osbourne was covering the red carpet in a Zac Posen fishtail gown that was awfully crumpled, the gown itself is lovely but don’t get me started on her hair! Wash it out Kelly!
Michelle Williams is certainly going out of her way to distance herself from her on screen portrayal of Marilyn Monroe, here in a midnight blue Jason Wu gown. The print is a nice change for Michelle, who usually goes for more minimal styles but it was kinda ‘meh’ compared to past looks.
You can always count on Tilda Swinton to grab the attention on the red carpet in a pale blue Haider Ackermann gown. The only other person I can see pulling this look off is Rooney Mara or Cate Blancett, you need to be statuesque to work this look. Some may hate on the dress but Tilda is never one to conform with a pretty princess dress for awards season and this look is completely her own.

One lady I was very dissppointed with was Mila Kunis, which is a complete turnaround from her impressive run at last year’s awards show. Attending just to host is no excuse to pick a boring Dior dress Mila, you’re shrinking into the background! I’m praying she gets her mojo back soon [fingers crossed]

Young Hollywood was noticably missing from this year’s Golden Globes but was nicely represented by Shailene Woodley and Ariel Winter. Shailene kept it minimal is a sleek Marchesa gown, whereas Ariel looked adorable in a purple Dolce & Gabbana dress black bow pumps.

I’ve definitely missed doing these round ups =) here’s to another great awards show season!
