  • Golden Globe Awards 2012 – Red Carpet Fashion Round-Up part 1

January marks the starts of the glittering awards season in the world of showbiz and arguably the best event to kick it off is the Golden Globe Awards. This year’s red carpet was a bit of a roller-coaster ride when it came who wore it best with some new favourites emerging and some old favourites falling short.

Anyone who follows me on Twitter will know I had a bit of an internal dilemma when it came to picking a definite favourite at the awards. But after I slept on it I think it was clear that Emma Stone stole the show for me. She look sensational in a deep purple Lanvin gown and smoky make up. I had a feeling of de-ja vu, but when you looks this good who really cares right?

Two Hollywood veterans who really impressed me this time was Angelina Jolie and Kate Winslet, both proof that no matter what your age or size you can look amazing. Angelina stepped out in Atelier Versace and, like last year, shunned her black red carpet uniform for a cream gown with a thigh high split. Kate was just as stunning in a figure hugging Jenny Packham gown. Well done ladies!

This gown caused me a lot of stress last night, Zooey Deschanel hit the red carpet in a custom made Prada gown. From the front the gown looks a little ill fitted around the waistline and the flow from the embellishment to the satin doesn’t seem to work; but the back detail and embellishment on the front is stunning! Lime green might not be to everyone’s taste but it’s nice seeing Zooey out of her comfort zone of vintage tea dresses. One thing I do love is her hair and make up, very 60’s movie siren.

Three women making some pretty dramatic entrances to the awards were Piper Perabo, Charlize Theron and Sarah Michelle Gellar, in Theyskens Theory, Dior and Monique Lhuilier respectively.
Starting with Piper, the gown itself is gorgeous but I’m definitely left thinking she’s not tall enough to pull it off. The top half looks great on her but the skirt looks almost impossible to walk in.
Charlize brought some great Hollywood glamour with her gown, on anyone else it would’ve look very costume-y but she worked that gown so well.
Sarah Michelle Gellar was a surprise, her gown was one of my favourites from this collection but it’s a gown that demands someone with a big personality to wear it. And as much as I love her as an actress [hello Buffy fan here!] I’d probably love it more on someone like Dianna Agron or Katy Perry.

Bringing some va va voom to the red carpet were Reese Witherspoon in Zac Posen and Sophia Vergara in Vera Wang, both in stunning figure hugging fish tail gowns.

One lady I know will be dividing opinions during this awards season is Rooney Mara. The relative newbie stepped out in a simple plunging Nina Ricci gown. I will give the girl some credit for managing her hairdo since filming ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ but I think this will be a look that grows on me. I’m hoping she steps up to become the Hailee Steinfeld/Jennifer Lawrence of this awards season and will grow into her style every time we see her.

Keep an eye out for my next part!

  • New Year’s Style Resolutions 2012

January signals a change in one’s mindset and like last year, I’m setting some stylish New Year’s resolutions…

    #1 Business Attire

2012 may be the year I get a business placement as part of my University course and because of this, I need a seriously stylish wardrobe to match that’s also practical and comfortable too. Shops like Zara, Mango and ASOS should be great for finding workwear, as well as picking up separates from high street stores like TopShop and H&M.

    #2 Good quality basic wardrobe

This is slightly linked with the first resolution, but it’s also seriously needed because my wardrobe is falling apart.  Investing a little more money into good quality clothes will hurt my pocket right now but will mean I won’t have to keep buying cheaper high street clothes.

#3 Find the perfect leather bag

I’m starting to see a practical trend coming through in my resolutions this year lol but I’m so set on accomplishing this one. Ideally I’d love a dark leather bag that I’m able to fit everything in that I can use on a daily basis *cough*Mulberry Alexa*cough*

#4 Experiment with hairstyles and accessories

After setting the resolution last year of wearing more hats, I thought I’d make this resolution a little easier to accomplish. Since getting my fringe cut I’ve been really boring with my hair, so I’m dead set on getting some really pretty hair accessories and playing around with my hairstyles. Zooey Deschanel will act as my hair muse this year.

    #5 Invest in independent retailers

I love browsing Etsy and seeing other blogger’s online shops. I really admire people who bored make such creative things, so I’ll make a promise to start buying from them and invest into this amazing fashion loving and blogging community.

  • 2011 New Year’s Style Resolution revisited

As 2011 comes to a close I’m looking back some stylish resolutions I set way back at the start of the year. Some have been a success…some? Well, take a look at how I did.

    Wear more colour

I ventured out of my black and beige wardrobe and embraced a more colourful side of my personal style. From the bright and sunny summer hues to rich Autumn and winter shades, I did really try to make an effort to shy away from boring neutrals and definitely am gonna keep this resolution up as I spy neon and candy shades coming up for Spring/Summer 2012.

    Invest in hats

Let down no #1, with the exception of my wool winter beanie I’ve yet to invest in any more headgear than I did since the beginning of 2011…

    No more stripes

Challenge definitely completed! I loved breaking the habit of having too many stripes in my wardrobe in all types of clothing. I will admit I have bought one or two striped pieces this year…they are a wardrobe staple, I can’t eliminate them completely.

    Get some gladiators

This was an obscure one and possibly not achieved due to the lack of regular heatwaves like the year before. I did manage to replace my old sandals but alas no gladiators, hopefully I’ll rock some next Summer.

    Embrace my inner girl

Slowly. Slowly but surely I’m getting there with this resolution. I didn’t , take a hold of that 1970’s diva trend but I did venture into the more ‘Zoey Deschanel’ fashion stylebook for a more preppy take on being a bit more girl-y with my styling. Hopefully Spring/Summer12 1950’s revival should push me into that feminine frontier.

So, 3/5 isn’t too bad, I’ll be setting some new resolutions next week so look out for that post! And it’s looking like this will be the last time I blog before 2012.

So I wish you all a very Happy New Year!!
