The humble trench coat has come a long way since its military background in the original dictionary definition and the Spring 2015 runways are bringing us exciting new takes on this classic wardrobe staple.

Of course a conversation on trench coats can’t happen without mention of Burberry Prorsum. Though this season’s collection was decidedly trench-less, the ones which Bailey decided to feature were bold in colour and graphic printed. On the softer end of the scale was Temperley London’s lighter, pastel coloured take on the trench, with sleeves rolled up for that extra dose of casual cool. Despite these two collections having a bit of fun, there were others like Moschino and Toga who kept with the traditional camel colour but experimented with the cut – Moschino with sheer, short and with bold black accents, Toga oversized and minimalist.

Though my love of the classic trench coat will undoubtedly last a lifetime, it’s great to see how something so timeless can be remixed to fit the feel of the season and designer’s style.

What about you guys? Are you trench coat purists? Or have you loved seeing them remixed this season?

  • Fairytale Fashion | Marchesa Spring 2015 Collection

    Marchesa-Spring-2015-lookbook

There is one collection I’m sure to bookmark once fashion week season rolls around and that’s Marchesa – and this Spring 2015 collection was absolutely no exception to that rule.

It was somewhat of a homecoming for designers Georgia Chapman and Keren Craig, who both originally hail from the UK. The two decided to celebrate 10 years of the label with a special showcase in London.

For Spring, Chapman and Craig decided to bring a taste of that US Summer sunshine over to British shores with this feast of floral, lace and boho inspired pieces. Trailing bouquets of floral embroidery and motifs cascaded down gowns of sheer fabric, this season’s feel was pure fairytale hippie-chic.

Having name checked Glastonbury and Woodstock as their starting point inspirations, it’s no wonder I can imagine the likes of Stevie Nicks or Florence Welch lapping these pieces up. One thing I noticed this time round was just how much lighter this collection looked. Normally fans of weightier fabrics which hug and cling in all the right places, this season’s Marchesa girls are bathed in looser shapes which are made for navigating ethereal forests at dusk. ‘Vogue’ noted that this didn’t feel like a London fashion week collection and I would totally agree. This is pure Cali-romance and it’s gorgeous.
