The Trench Reinvented

The humble trench coat has come a long way since its military background in the original dictionary definition and the Spring 2015 runways are bringing us exciting new takes on this classic wardrobe staple.

Of course a conversation on trench coats can’t happen without mention of Burberry Prorsum. Though this season’s collection was decidedly trench-less, the ones which Bailey decided to feature were bold in colour and graphic printed. On the softer end of the scale was Temperley London’s lighter, pastel coloured take on the trench, with sleeves rolled up for that extra dose of casual cool. Despite these two collections having a bit of fun, there were others like Moschino and Toga who kept with the traditional camel colour but experimented with the cut – Moschino with sheer, short and with bold black accents, Toga oversized and minimalist.

Though my love of the classic trench coat will undoubtedly last a lifetime, it’s great to see how something so timeless can be remixed to fit the feel of the season and designer’s style.

What about you guys? Are you trench coat purists? Or have you loved seeing them remixed this season?

I’d say I’m a trench coat purist! The remixed ones are fun to look at but I’d have no idea how to wear them day to day.

I love a good trench coat! The remixed designs are so fun, but I think I’d stick to the most classic look because I’m not brave enough for anything crazy! xx
