  • Dare To Bare | How To Style A Crop Top

    how-to-crop-tops

Whilst I was writing up my TCA round up the other day, it became glaringly obviously that the trend for bare midriffs is not going anywhere. Now I don’t know about you but I’m deeply self-conscious about my stomach, and whilst Taylor Swift and Chloe Moretz may feel confident daring to bare it on the red carpet it can be a bit daunting to try out the crop in real life.

Never fear, the solution is all in the styling.

Depending on how brave you’re feeling there’s a crop top styling solution for everyone. If you’re blessed with abs that would make Ellie Goulding weep, don’t be afraid to show them off (I know I would!), but take a leaf out of Moretz’ TCA styling and protect some of your modesty – and keep away the chill! – with a smart but eye-catching jacket. Alternatively balance out the material with a minimal style maxi skirt.

If you’re not so comfortable with showing off your skin, the key to working this trend lies with what you wear on your bottom half. Try a high-wasited skirt or trousers to balance out the crop and to show off a sliver of skin just above your abdomen.

Another alternative for the not so brave – and my favourite solution – is to meet midway and find a crop top with a tented cut that sits just above your belly-button, much like Nina Dobrev’s look from last week. Again, a high-waisted skirt will keep you feeling more comfortable and balance out the look.

So there you have it. You really have no excuse now! Dare to bare ;)

There’s so much beauty in simplicity. Clean. Simple. Basic. Monochromatic. The idea of minimal and white space is soothing and can calm the soul from the reality and clutter of real life. No wonder so many of us, deep down, all aspire to live a more minimal lifestyle, whether that be through our clothing choices or our homes.

  • Distressed But Well Dressed | Christian Benner Custom Tees & Jackets

Once upon a time I wanted to be a rock star. Call it the influence of Avril Lavigne or my obsession with Busted and Blink 182 at the time, but 13 year old Ria was really into the idea of being a rebel and playing Wembley Stadium…yeah that didn’t happen lol

Cut to me almost 10 years later and though I’m definitely not the punk rock princess I thought I’d become, in the dark recess of my brain I still like the idea of a wardrobe of band tees, leather jackets and studs. Cue Christian Benner, a game changer in the underground design scene, who’s distressed custom clothing collection comes rock concert ready.

Benner champions the traditional rock n roll imagery through his design, which are often repurposed vintage pieces. His style very much encompasses the early era of rock music, and, as you can see from his lookbook the entire collection is shredded, studded and skinned to rock n roll perfection. What makes these even more unique is that these are custom made to measure too. So no worries about jacket sleeves being too short or t-shirts far too long! Not mention Benner has garnered celeb fans including Mila Kunis, Brad Pitt and more recently 5 Seconds of Summer.

Whilst you can’t deny the custom leather motorcycle jackets are pretty stunning, but over $100 for a shredded t-shirt is a bit on the pricey side, no matter how cool they look. Maybe you craft-ier people can release your inner rockstar and take on Benner’s style as a DIY?
