  • Summer On The Road | My Ultimate Driving Playlist

    summer-driving-playlist
MoneySupermarket are running a little competition and asking people what their ultimate Summer driving playlist. Eagle eyed readers may notice that I don’t drive, but like that’s going to stop me from making one! Just imagine cruising down Route 66 or road tripping it with friends to the beach, or – if you’re like me and will be working most of the Summer – take a deep breath and pump these out on your morning commute.
Joe Brooks | Six String Soldier
Because if there’s any male solo artist who encompasses Summer to me it’s Joe Brooks. His songs just ooze Summer breeze and, of course, he’s making it into this playlist. Six Strong Soldier is definitely my favourite off his most recent album. It’s so damn catchy.

Red Hot Chili Peppers | Higher Ground
If you’re after something to head-bang to then here you go. I recently rekindled my love for this song again, after realising I used to do dance warms up to this at my old musical theatre class, and now am completely addicted to it.

    Kate Voegele | Chicago
One of my favourite singer-songwriters, Kate Voegele writes songs that feel like they take you on a journey. This is a break up song but one of those ‘I don’t care about you anymore I’m leaving you (for Chicago)’ break up songs, which make you feel oh so empowered.

Taylor Swift | State Of Grace
Like I wasn’t going to include T-Swizzle on this playlist. It’s perhaps not the most obvious or most well known choice but the drums and guitar provide the perfect beat for cruising down the ol’ country road.

    Mumford & Sons | I Will Wait
My sister once commented – whilst we were on a car ride with the ‘rents and listening to my iPod – that listening to Mumford whilst passing the green fields here in England just make you feel like your in a road trip movie or something. So on they playlist they go.

    McFLY | Star Girl

Every car journey needs a good epic sing-a-long and this one’s a good ‘un. I’m sure UK readers will know all about the Chris Moyles instigated McFriday from his old Breakfast Show, so we already know this sounds perfect blaring out of car windows down the motorway. But c’mon I dare any of you not to join in the ‘Ooo’s once this starts playing.

So let me know what you think about my playlist. What would be on yours?

  • LINKS À LA MODE | THE IFB WEEKLY ROUND UP | JULY 26TH

I may have been a bit m.i.a. with post this week – stupid cold – but the lovely peeps at IFB have featured me in this week’s Links A La Mode! Just the little lift I needed to end my exhausting and cold-ridden week :) xoxo

    On a Trend Bender

Summer is actually the best time to play around with trends. You know why? Because summer is the the best time play around in general! With all the bold colors and prints, the great summer sales, and gorgeous weather, it’s hard not to get caught up in the spirit of going bold. This week’s roundup has wonderful links to get you in the mindset to try new trends, even ones you don’t think you’d look good in. We’ve even got a great DIY for leather shorts, if you’re crafty and don’t want to shell out the dough for a store-bought pair. And even if you’re not crafty, there’s a great guide to hitting the summer sales. If you’re anything like me, it’s too easy to get caught up in a good deal, so I need all the help I can get not to overspend. Anyway, here are the links for the week. Enjoy!

  • Bold vs Bare | The Great Summer Make-Up Debate

    bare-v-bold-header
Summer is here and when choosing beauty looks there are two trends that crop up in magazines at the moment…whether to go bare and fresh faced OR take a hold of bold and beautiful colour!
    bare-faced-make-up
In one corner, there’s the bare faced and au-natural look. Think simple, translucent base make up in sun kissed shades, alongside neutral tones of eyeshadow and light powder blushes that give you a hint of colour on those cheeks. You should be aiming to look like you could’ve strolled off a beach in California, fresh from a day surfing or light stroll through an English country park. Perfect for those days when you simply CBA-d to make an effort, and why should you? It’s Summer!
    bold-make-up
The other alternative is something that embraces the fun loving nature of the season. Bright and colourful make up is a trend that makes its way into our hearts every year. Neon shades in all kinds of beauty products evoke images of Ibiza ravers and hot nights out of the town. But it can also be great to add some rockstar edge alongside Boho looks at manic music festivals or some glamour at the poolside in tropical holiday towns.
Personally I’ll be aiming for something simpler this Summer – especially with the heat! But seeing as I’ve been trying to get more into my make up this year, a couple of unlikely shades of the rainbow may make their way into my beauty routine.
Which look will you be rocking this Summer? Bare-faced or Bold?
