  • 5 Things To Do On A Rainy Bank Holiday

We may be heading into June soon but this last Bank Holiday is looking seriously dodgy weather-wise. So why risk getting stuck in a rain shower in the erratic British weather?! Here are five suggestions for things to do on a rainy Bank Holiday weekend – and any rainy day to be honest…

    1. Museum hop…because why stand outside in the rain when you can put your cultural head on underneath a roof. Head to London or another big city or keep close to home. Wander around for a few hours, spend some time in pop-up exhibitions and take in a guided tour.

    2. Have a read-a-thon…I don’t know about you but I have a TBR pile the size of a skyscraper. So this weekend build yourself a bedroom blanket fort with a pile of books and escape only to take tea/coffee/biscuit breaks (and to y’know pee).

    3. Indoor yoga…fire up Youtube, roll out your yoga matt (it’s there in the back of your cupboard somewhere right?) and be one with your inner self. Don’t attempt anything too testing but try some breathing exercises, focus on your mind and stretch out your limbs. Namaste my friends.

    4. Two words. Netflix Marathon…fire up the laptop or settle down in front of your Smart TV and get watch that series/movie that ALL of your friends have been banging on about *cough*Daredevil*cough*

    5. Get baking…there nothing more comforting on a rainy day than baking something deliciously calorific. Not only is it wonderful stress relief but you get to eat CAKE when you’re finished and can earn you serious brownie points (hahaha) with your family/housemate/significant other. Let’s be real that’s a decent win/win situation.

*New feature klaxon* Say hello Throwback Thursdays, a little glimpse back in time to take a look at some fashion inspiration from the past. First up a longstanding favourite of mine, the eternally stylish Stevie Nicks.

The 70s style icon made her name as one of the lead singer-songwriters in Fleetwood Mac before embarking on a illustrious solo career garnering 8 Grammy Awards and she’s still kicking-ass over 30 years later. Long-hailed as the original ‘boho style Queen’ her now famous look was crafted alongside designer and stylist Margi Kent – the two have continued to work together, most recently for Fleetwood Mac’s recent tour. The looks that Nicks and Margi created back in Fleetwood Mac’s heyday and throughout Nicks’ solo career have since become the template for every flower child for generations to come.

Nicks’ laid-back wardrobe consisting of flowing gypsy dresses, layered skirts, fringed shawls, killer platform boots and unconventional headgear (of the feathered, lace and tulle variety), became staples both in her on-stage performances and off-stage. At the time she was a pioneer. A female rock n roll star playing with the big boys of the 70s, Nicks seem to use her style as a form empowerment. She may have been dressed like a the fairy queen of California cool, but she definitely carried darker and more gothic undertones in many of her ensembles.

At 66, Stevie Nicks can still rock boho-chic – albeit she’s a lot more streamlined, sticking to all blacks and petticoats, though her knee-high boots are still ever-present in her world.

From Florence Welch to Sienna Miller to the Olsen twins, her signature style has been copied and translated across the decades in various iterations. Her style legacy also lives on on the high street thanks to the recent 70s revival and her unique brand of free-spirited flair is a now ‘the’ look attempted by many at festivals around the world – Coachella in particular is full of mini-Stevies draped in shawls, embroidered prairie dresses and strings of beaded necklaces.

But despite the plethora of copycats there is only on Bella Donna, one Nightbird and one style icon Stevie Nicks.

  • Beauty | Dewy Summer Skin

As the sun starts to shine (albeit rather sporadically here in England!) on goes my hunt for that perfect make-up base for my Summer face.

I thought I’d found the answer to all my prayers last year with Sephora’s foundation spray – so light yet so much coverage and so perfectly wonderful – alas, like many of my favourites (I. AM. LOOKING. AT. YOU. TARTE) I’m sacrificing the rebuy in favour switching to cruelty free alternative. So far the closest I’m still using up most of my non-cruelty free foundations from Rimmel and Garnier, but I’m keen to try out these bad boys in the coming months. Hopefully I can invest on one of these before I brave the heat in Italy this August!
