Travels | Craig Y Nos Castle, Wales

Just a quickie blog post today from my little mini trip to Wales this past weekend for my friend’s wedding.

The beautiful venue for her ceremony and reception was the stunning looking Carig Y Nos Castle in the upper Swansea Valley. Right in the middle of the Welsh countryside the castle sits on the backdrop of some seriously breathtaking views of the grounds, which are part of the Brecon Beacons National Park.

Not satisfied with looking all stately and impressive outside, the inside of the Castle is just as cool. Formerly owned by world renowned opera star Adelina Patti in the late 1800s, the prima donna made Craig Y Nos her own spectacular home until the day she died. One particular part of the castle that’s especially impressive was Adelina’s private theatre – in which my friend’s wedding ceremony was actually held.

If you ever find yourself in that part of Wales the castle and grounds are certainly worth a wander around (the castle itself is also a pretty lovely hotel). Just be careful though, the place is supposedly haunted by Patti’s ghost and other paranormal figures from the castle’s past…but I certainly didn’t see any (despite the many glasses of win consumed at the wedding reception!)

I loved going to Wales when I was in England. It’s so beautiful!

Congrats to your friend! I have to admit, I pretty much overlooked Wales when I was on vacation in the UK and opted to go to Scotland instead because I was pretty much like, “WHAT IS THERE TO DO IN WALES????”. Will definitely check it out next time and that castle is such a fairytale-esque wedding venue!
