  • An Ode To Independent Magazines

There’s no denying the print magazine industry is in a slight decline. Even publications like Vogue seem to be struggling as they turn to digital subscriptions and boosting their online presence to boost sales.

I guess in some ways we’re partially to blame. As both a blog reader and avid social media user, I rarely get my news or fashion/beauty fix in print anymore. Why would I splash out when I can get my content pretty much for free online? I had admittedly fallen out of love with the printed medium and rarely actually pick up a copy of Glamour or Elle anymore – if I do it’s normally because I’m swayed if one of my faves is the cover star.

I am slowly reginiting my love for print though thanks to independent magazines. It’s a slow crawl but like other ‘lost’ art forms (podcasts, crafting, vinyls etc.) they’re experiencing somewhat of a comeback. Publications like Oh Comely or Kinfolk are thriving, as are a number of other niche titles. There seems to be an allure to what’s being created. Pickier magazine readers are seeking something individual and more cutting edge, others may have also grown bored of seeing the same high street top in every ‘glossy’.

  • Inspiration | Colour Feature Walls

    interior-accent-walls

Happy Friday! Are you up for a little bit of lifestyle inspiration today fresh from my own Pinterest boards?
Whilst, I of course love the idea of embellishing a room with nick knacks, trinkets and amazing furniture, sometimes you gotta take it back to basics. if your pockets are stretched to afford said furniture and nick knacks, a colour blocked feature wall can be just the thing to instantly makes a room pop.
Personally I’m so drawn to the pastel colours which immediately lighten and open up a small room. Alternatively a darker hue can make larger rooms seem cosier, which is a major bonus during the colder winter months. Also judging from these photos why limit yourself to the obvious places to add colour like the bedroom or living room? I love the idea of blocking out some colour in a hallway, bathroom or kitchen as these places are often long forgotten when decorating.

  • Haul | MCM Comic Con, London

    mcm-haul-header

Nerdy haul alert! I was at MCM Comic Con at London’s Excel Centre this past weekend and like the n00b that I am I didn’t take that many photos actually at the convention – I blame the heat and my brain functioning on like fours hours of sleep and the fact I was too scared to ask people if I could take photos of their cosplays. Nevertheless as with any convention I was in nerd heaven with all manner of merch and geek themed paraphernalia on show but I surprised myself with how restrained I was in terms of purchases. Here are a few bits and pieces I did pick up on the day…
