New York Fashion Week | Favourite SS14 Collections

So with the fashion week season in full swing, I thought I’d start round up my favourite collections from the first two finished weeks. First up is my top five from New York Fashion Week…

RED-Valentino-SS14

Red Valentino | This whole collection is basically encompasses every trend I always hope comes through in Spring/Summer fashion week. Gorgeous floral prints, swing skirts, peter pan collars…ugh so pretty! It’s playful and wonderfully whimsical,  with the inspiration clearly from the botanical world. Personal favourites from the collection include the floral swing coat and black strapless dress with layered skirt.
Who should be wearing this collection? Ariana Grande, Elle Fanning, Bella Thorne, Alexa Chung

3.1-Phillip-Lim-SS14

3.1 Phillip Lim | Lim looked towards geology this season, but whilst I love many of the precious stone prints on much of the collection – such as this dress – it’s the simpler pieces that have caught my eye. I feel like there were three different colour schemes happening here, with the prettier pastels, mustard and blue hues, then – my favourite – the darker and edgier tones towards the end of the run. I’m definitely hoping the rusty metallic textures end up filter into the shops sooner, I want to try and find a metallic shirt like this for this Autumn/Winter.
Who should be wearing this collection? Kristen Stewart, Lily Collins, Kate Bosworth, Emma Watson

Ruffian-SS14

Ruffian | My favourite thing about fashion week is finding new designers that I haven’t heard about before and Ruffian is that designer for New York Fashion Week. The collection feels almost Autumnal because of the colour pallete, a mix of both preppy British and Parisian style with a ladylike feel. There’s subdued florals and houndslouth prints too, which no doubt will be a hit for the ‘granny-chic’ crowd.
Who should be wearing this collection? Taylor Swift, Sophia Coppola, Dianna Agron, Zooey Deschannel

The-Row-SS14

The Row | The Olsens decided to travel the world for this season. There’s a clear Saudi businesswoman feel to much of the collection as well as layered Moroccan pieces, dressed up with a downtown New York City cool. The colour palette is fairly neutral, and much like the piece themselves they seemed inspired by the desert sands of North Africa and the Middle East.
Who should be wearing this collection? The Olsens (Mary-Kate, Ashley and Elizabeth), Tilda Swinton, Carey Mulligan, Jessica Alba

Zac-Posen-SS14

Zac Posen | The entirety of Posen’s Spring range screams ‘red carpet ready’ to me, and there are few pieces that could translate into real life – unless you’ll be heading to a Ball at any point soon. This collection has divided a few opinions in the fashion world, but I love the romanticism of it all. It’s ruffles, silky fabrics and draping galore, and styling feels like a modern day Marie Antoinette crossed with a woodland fairy. Fantastical and, much like Valentino’s collection, is whimsical though in a completely different way. Plus just look at that finale gown!
Who should be wearing this collection? Daisy Lowe, Florence Welch, Katy Perry, Fan Bingbing
