I often talk about finding new and exciting little Independent brands online, but Brooklyn Industries was a fantastic brand I literally stumbled upon walking around Union Square when I visited in New York. At first glance, with their downtown hipster-ish vibe, Brooklyn Industries is feels very similar to brand here in the UK like Bank, Republic or – dare I say it – Urban Outfitters. Their collections are a really cool mix of urban street wear and smarter forever pieces, not to mention their graphic t-shirt range is pretty awesome. The only thing I ended up buying was a bag for my mum but my oh my I really could’ve bought out the whole store.
Like I’ve said upon first glance Brooklyn Industries is just a really awesome store, as I delved further into the brand I found out about their story. Behind the brand is a bustling network of home grown manufacturing and support for local designers, artists and people. In fact the name ‘Brooklyn Industries’ certainly serves them well to describe their approach. Part of the charm of much of the clothing range is seeing the pride in New York based talent, as seen with their graphic t-shirt range emblazoned with imagery and typography celebrating the city.
As well as this Brooklyn Industries keen on supporting the local community in Manhattan, Brooklyn and beyond, they’re big on social responsibility and sustainability. Not only are these values fed through their eco-collections and vegan pieces, but their stores are designed and built around ‘green’ materials and decked out with vintage furniture instead of buying brand new.

So, a fab company with a heart with fantastic collections! Awesome right? My only downside (for us Brits at least) is that their very much still based in the USA. At present, shipping from their site is pretty steep (think pre-UK shipping Sephora prices and add a couple of dollars), but hey nothing’s gonna stop me from stockpiling the wish list above for when I have some extra cash or maybe afford to fly all the way to New York again or…hey Brooklyn Industries why not bring a taste of this beautiful borough to London town sometime, hey? ;)
