Here’s a bit of a colourful lift to get you out of that midweek funk! The Teen Choice Awards were held this past weekend in L.A. and there was plenty of California sunshine to accompany some fantastic red (or in this case blue) carpet looks on the night. Here are some of my favourites…
Best Dressed Award | Zendaya Coleman
There was once a time when I would’ve passed over Zendaya’s red carpet attire as simply alright. Nowadays she’s pulls out all the stops to stand out and for that I’m truly grateful, as we get fantastic looks like this. Too haute couture for the TCA’s? Who cares! I adore this Ashi Studio look which is all about that crop structured top. It’s bold and unexpected, yet has a subtle sophistication about it. Very few could pull this off, but Zendaya does it with a fierce and fiery attitude.
Most Summer-y Ensemble Award | Lea Michelle
We’ve been thin on the ground for some Lea Michelle red carpet goodness since Glee finished (*sob*) but with Scream Queens on the horizon, she’s stepped out into the spotlight and is looking FABULOUS. The great thing about having her back is super fun looks like this. She looks incredible in this beautiful a-line mini by Monique Lhuillier. Aren’t the floral accents so so pretty? Lea kept on the youthful theme with a breezy half up do and bold pointed red pumps.
The Literal Ray Of Sunshine Award | Sarah Hyland
Remember that Cali sunshine I mentioned in my intro? Here’s the personification that. Sarah rocked the shorts and crop top combo – a simple yet chic look that ain’t going anywhere fast! This casual Christian Siriano lemon yellow ensemble looks amazing against Sarah’s tanned complexion and paired with simple braided bob and thin strappy white sandals it’s pretty much the perfect outfit for an event like the TCAs.
Miss Sophisticated Award | Emma Roberts
Emma offered us another take on the Summer sunshine in a bright white bodycon dress by Peter Pilotto. This off-the-shoulder midi dress on the surface is pretty simple, but take a closer look and there’s some pretty colourful pattern work on the panels of the dress. Not only was Emma’s look one of the most sophisticated on the night, paired with simple sandals and a carefree loose hairstyle, it was also one of the freshest of the evening.
The Suited & Booted Award | Peyton List
Another very sophisticated looking lady was actress Peyton list, who rocked a polka dotted suit from DVF’s Resort 2015 collection. This could easily have faded into the backdrop at the ceremony but it’s looking alive and fresh thanks to her black crop top and amazing Rebecca Minkoff sandals and Bulgari clutch. Both accessories provided the perfect pops of colour and a modern touch to the otherwise monochromatic look.
Most Fun Ensemble Award | Victoria Justice I love me a flapper dress but it’s definitely a style that can get too costume-y if overworked. Luckily, Victoria kept is simple in her Herve Lerger mini, letting the fringing on the shoulders and accented bodycon details do the talking. This totally reminds me of a low-key version of Lupita N’yong’o’s Met Gala gown from last year and though this one is more event appropriate, it’s seriously just as fun!
Best Use Of Print Award | Yara Shahidi
Another colourful ensemble and an explosion of wonderful printwork! Young actress Yara arrived at the TCA’s this year in a tropical asymetrical-shouldered mini dress by Rubin Singer. With her tan sandals and casual ponytail this whole look has a very holiday in Miami vibe.
Most Harmonious* Band Look | Fifth Harmony The winners for Choice Summer Song on the night were girlband Fifth Harmony who are looking hot off the back of accompanying Ms. Swift on her 1989 tour. The girls presented Britney with her style icon award, looking equally as stylish themselves. Lauren opted for an all-black Karen Millen jumpsuit; Ally went for a monochrome crop top and midi skirt combo (by N Nicholas and Elizabeth James respectively); Dinah walked the blue carpet with the girls in a more colourful Alice and Olivia pants and a top by Candies; Normani also went for an all black look in a Candie’s top and skirt by Ellery; and finally Camila rocked PVC Christopher Kane skirt and top by Candies. The looks work so well individually but really look great together too. *I’m not apologising for the pun ok?
Best Dressed Teen Award | Maddie Ziegler
No Teen Awards would be anything without actual teens, and Dance Moms star/mini Sia Maddie’s look from the night was definitely one of my favourites. She looked adorable in a bright floral Mac Duggal dress, which she accessorised with pretty pink pumps and clutch bag.
The It’s Britney Bitch Award | Britney Spears
First of all, doesn’t Britney looking happy and utterly radiant here? For me she absolutely killed it on the night in this bright white Mikael D mini dress. She kept the accessories simple, letting the dress and her dip dyed hair do the talking. She looked like a majestic mermaid princess accepting the Style Icon award!
