Ah London Fashion Week. Much less constrained than it’s New York counterpart and full of eccentricity, the London leg of the fashion week circus is both full of surprises and a fantastic showcase some of big name brands. Check out my top five favourites from the shows…
Burberry Prorsum
As always Bailey’s doing what he does best. The Burberry look this season? Military refinement, with that added edge of anglo-cool we’ve come to know and love from the brand’s designs. As with a lot of Burberry’s Spring collections, this one carries distinctly Autumnal details with pieces that are made to be layered – perfect for the current UK climate. This season sees heavy pea coats and blazers with golden military insignia set atop barely there lace dresses and almost see-through silk and lace slips. It oozes sex appeal in a very prim and proper British way.
Who’ll be sporting it? Cara Delevigne, Anna Kendrick, and Suki Waterhouse
Mary Katrantzou
Printwork is Katrantzou’s thing but she’s been shy of using them in her past few collections. It’s all change for Spring with her modern take on the ditsy floral, taking the idea of mixing prints to another level too. Not content with just print work, she’s also weaved in mesmerising metallic embroidery and subtle yet striking architectural details. The pieces are showstoppers which shimmer brilliantly under the runway lights.
Who’ll be sporting it? Shailene Woodley, Kerry Washington, and Keirnan Shipka
Topshop Unique
Topshop have always wrestled with legitimising their place on the London runways and with Spring 2016 the design team seem to be pulling together collections that are not only commercially wearable but will also pass as high fashion. There’s hints of Sloane-ranger in this season’s looks thanks to the oversized blazers and pantsuits, as well as a tiny dose of Cher Horowitz – note the fluffy sandals. Overall Topshop are killing the game for Spring 2016 and I can definitely see these looks flying off the high-street shelves.
Who’ll be sporting it? Kate Moss, Gigi Hadid, and Alexa Chung
Temperley London
You can practically smell the sea breeze coming off the back of Temperley London‘s Spring line. Bold, tropical prints and airy cotton fabrics are on the agenda for the label’s tribute to the effortless Mediterranean lifestyle. As gorgeous as some of these pieces are – I’m living for the pretty white prairie dresses and loose printed shawls – the accessories totally set off the look here. You can bet we’ll all be reaching for the panama hats and string gladiators come Summer 2016.
Who’ll be sporting it? Penelope Cruz, Chloe Moretz, and Sarah Hyland
Edeline Lee
As always fashion week season is the perfect time of year to find new design favourites and I honestly think London is one of the best places to do that. This season I’ve completely won over by Edeline Lee’s pastel hued collection. The pieces are tailored and angular, and the print work here is bold and graphic, but the lighter pale pink, yellow and seafoam greens lift the collection into a much softer territory.
Who’ll be sporting it? Elizabeth Banks, Lea Michelle, and Jenna Coleman
