Rejoice one and all fashion season is firmly upon us and as always I’m super excited to see the plethora of collections stream across Twitter and Instagram feeds and even live on Youtube. First up we head to the Big Apple! Decamped and dispersed away from the usual Lincoln Center runways we’re so used to seeing, New York Fashion Week, really was an unpredictable joy ride across both Manhattan and Brooklyn. It was definitely tough to choose favourites from the New York collections but here are my top 5 from the week…

Victoria Beckham

VB has come a long way since her first collection hit the runways back in 2009 and I honestly feel she’s truly hit her stride this season. Where once VB’s collections would’ve tailored themselves – almost literally – to the form fitting bodies of the Hollywood elite, nowadays her collections are much more attuned to her own brand of subtle sophistication. For SS16 pop art colours and contemporary graphic prints are mingled with VB’s now signature sport lux style. This collection has hints of the Cali-surf culture mixed with American New England athletics and the refinery of the British Country Club, with loose fitting dresses that graze at the calves, flatforms and loafers.

Who’ll be sporting it? Marion Cotillard, Lupita N’yong’o and Vicky B of course

Marc Jacobs

If there was anyone who was going to pull out pure unadulterated theatrics for New York Fashion Week, it was going to be Marc Jacobs. Held at the Ziegfeld Theatre, the old school movie theatre was a perfect venue to showcase his high octane style. This time the collection was wonderfully eccentric – in fact it perhapes would feel more at home on the London runaways than Midtown Manhattan. There were mismatched patterns, bold reds clashing with blue purple hues, and rough-and-ready hemlines and tailoring juxtaposed alongside oversized jumpers and jackets. If there was one word to describe the collection is would most certainly be fun and working a tone we’re much more accustomed to seeing on Jacobs’ diffusion lines.

Who’ll be sporting it? Katy Perry, Diana Agron, and Solange Knowles.

Rodarte

I squeed in excitement after seeing images from this collection pop up on my Instagram feed. The Mulleavy sisters are back doing what they do best, offering us a sumptuous SS16 collection. Perfectly outfitted for the 21st Century Stevie Nicks aficionado the collection’s offering of deconstructed 70s opulence is chock full of lace, furs and ruffles – reminiscent of their more ethereal styles from their earlier shows. The cuts are almost Victorian-esque tinged with night-time glamour of Studio 54. The subtle hits of gold and silver metallic tones make this collection a hit for me.

Who’ll be sporting it? Emma Watson, Lucy Hale, and Elle Fanning

3.1 Philip Lim

This season was always going to be a big one for Philip Lim, a 10th anniversary show is bound to be laced with pressure to stay fashion forward and also pay homage to his past work. He need not have worried though. This season’s offering from the fashion house proves he’s truly at home in his New York setting, giving us a full taste of athletic lines with urban cuts with an oh-so-SoHo-vibe. And though Lim’s line thrives on the image of the downtown tomboy – there are plenty of bomber jackets, parachute pants and leather pieces demonstrating that for SS16 – the softer additions of the silk and organza shapes are a welcome addition. Overall the collection feels like a fantastic amalgamation of his greatest hits. There’s print, there’s sport lux, there’s slick-city-sexiness. All of which we’ve come to know and love from the brand and the designer for the past 10 years.

Who’ll be sporting it? Zendaya, Kate Bosworth and Rita Ora

Carolina Herrera

Out of all the collections this was the one I could see being snapped up by every celeb in Hollywood for those big red carpet moments. Herrerra’s collections are always beautiful, but this SS16 season’s pieces are the personification of pretty. The whole set is rose and pastel hued, with plenty of lady-like dresses, lace inserts and feminine cuts to make any fashion loving princess squee. But don’t be fooled by these slightly dated descriptions, as always Herrera has inserted some modern touches. Minimalistic crop tops, subtle yet sexy cut outs and new sportier lines, keep this collection feeling fresh. As do the distinct lack of print which she has taken a step back from after lining her collections with for the past few collections.

Who’ll be sporting it? Taylor Swift, Karlie Kloss, and Ariana Grande

Let me know what you thought of these collections and who were your favourites from New York?
