Ciao bella! Week three of the fashion week calendar has us jet setting off to Italian shores for the Milan Fashion Week shows. Though a new S/S collection often brings about exciting new designs, Milan’s fashion houses are often steeped in a design aesthetic that runs decades deep within the collections. Here are my top 5 favourites from the season…
Alberta Ferretti
Earthen tones, nature inspire needlework, and hipster festival ready pieces. Alberta Ferretti’s SS16 line was all about finding beauty and inspiration in the hot Mediterranean climate in a collection that was frayed, oversized and laden with sheer and lace fabrics. There’s an easy breezy feeling when it comes to many of the pieces, particularly the rope embellished gowns towards the end of the line.
Who’ll be sporting it? Selena Gomez, Zoe Saldana, and Christina Hendricks
Emporio Armani
Undone sophistication was the phrase that sprang to mind whilst checking out the Emporio Armani pieces. The 80s power blazers and large parachute pantsuits are making a comeback in shades of grey, rose pink and pale blue. Work wear continues to reign at the label but this season they er on the side of business casual with Armani’s everlasting brand of sexy chic. Then a dramatic shift physically on the actual runway and in the clothes themselves as they inject burst of citrus shades and have a bit of a play around with structure in their finale dresses.
Who’ll be sporting it? Rihanna, Zendaya, and Kristen Stewart
Max Mara
Prints can get complicated on the runway but Max Mara is going back to basics and displaying stars and stripes the Italiano way. The nautical inspired pieces feel very Ziggy-Stardust, with the whole collection giving off a very 80s glam rock vibe. Though many of the cuts still feel very much business as usual for Max Mara, Spring 2016 for the label feels so much more fun than past collections.
Who’ll be sporting it? Miley Cyrus, Grimes, and Chloe Moretz
Versace
The Versace girl has always worked the line between being totally sexy and a little bit dangerous, but she’s also a warrior this season too. Pieces start out almost militaristic, with the boxier cuts, bomber jackets, and belted jumpsuits before launching into full on camo colours mixed with splashes of neon greens, oranges and yellows. Before you get worried that Donatella has gone a bit modest for this season, never fear, there are plenty of thigh skimming minis, bare midriffs and sheer amongst the harder lines.
Who’ll be sporting it? Bella Thorne, Beyonce, and Heidi Klum
Trussardi
In contrast to Versace, Trussardi’s Spring offering is refreshingly poised and demure, with loose, oversized pieces that sway on the catwalk. Much like at Ferretti, earthen tones reign but this time the palette is beaten grey, burnt orange/red and muted brown. On paper that sounds dull but paired with the kaftan-esque shapes and billowing fabrics, Trussardi’s girls are anything but.
Who’ll be sporting it? Olivia Palermo, Haim, and Cate Blanchett
Let me know who were your favourites from Milan! Which of the collections set your heart soaring?
