Welcome back! Here we are with part 2 of my round up of the best of the red carpet looks from the 2015 Oscars ceremony. As I said in my first Oscar round up, it was tough to pick and choose favourites from the night. It was really a stellar evening for fashion! So without further ado, here are more of my top fashion picks…
Best Elie Saab Award | Emma Stone
As soon as I heard Emma would be in Elie Saab I knew I had to stay up to see it and boy she did not let me down. Her look was a nice palette clenser from all the white/cream/red/black combos we’d been seeing all evening in this gorgeous subdued lime green gown. The sequins and subsequent patterns they formed on this gown are quite exquisite and I love how this shape just glides of Emma statuesque figure. It’s also a refreshing change of tone from Emma who has been favouring darker menswear-inspired looks this awards season.
Favourite Couture Piece | Julianne Moore
There’s very little I love more about the awards show season than seeing couture on the red carpet, so when Julianne turned up in a Chanel gown you know I’m gonna be on this like the couture-magpie that I am. The design is so beautiful on this, seemingly simplistic on first glance but as you can see in the close up there’s so much beaded detail. This classic drop waist shape can be hard to pull of but Julianne looks stunning in this, keeping the rest of here look very sleek with her hair pulled back into a low ponytail.
Laurent’s Ladies Award | Dakota Johnson & Margot Robbie
Two very different looks from two equally gorgeous women in Saint Laurent. Actress Dakota Johnson opted for a rather blinding asymmetric red number by the designer, with a thigh high split and some killer heels to match the bejeweled silver shoulder on the dress. Smokey eyes set off this look, along with a loose informal ponytail for a subtley sexy look. Margot went vampish in a sheer, all black Saint Laurent gown with a plunge neck accessorised with the talking point for many – a $1.5 million necklace designed by Van Cleef & Arpels.
I love the differing takes on this collection with both perfectly suited to each actress.
Best Metallic Look Award | Naomi Watts
It’s so rare to see print on such a formal red carpet like the Academy Awards but Naomi Watts dared to be a little different in this fantastic Armani gown. With its snakeskin-like scaling, this is a great take on the metallic trend. I’m also so into the crop top/halter design on the gown
Sexiest Red Carpet Moment Award | Zoe Saldana
Zoe never fails to make fabulous choices on the red carpet and this Atelier Versace gown is no exception. Super sexy and oh so flattering, this shade looks incredible on Zoe. The cuts and panelling really make this gown, and show off her enviable figure. Disheveled bedhead, smokey eyes and a glamorous diamond necklace complete this look.
Most Playful Design Award | Joanna Newsom
One of the more fun looks from the night came from Jonanna Newsom who opted to wear a pretty pearly white gown with some amazing floral applique on the bodice, accompanying her other half Andy Sandberg on the night. The larger than life florals and tiny pops of turquoise jewelry catapult this look into Spring, plus check out that bouncy retro-inspired hair!
Green Goddess Award | America Ferrera
Ms. Ferrera was another early arrival on the red carpet in a refreshing blast of sea green and blue hues. There’s beautiful flow of fabric of her Jenny Packham gown, which give off the air of her gliding down the red carpet. She kept her hair and make-up in line with this flow with loose waves and dark smokey eyes. Her Rauwolf clutch offered a nice contrast to all the green/blue of her outfit though.
The Power Couple Award | Sophie Hunter & Benedict Cumberbatch
There seemed to be an abundance of couples at this year’s ceremony but the newly wedded Cumberbatches were my pick as the power couple of the night – style-wise. Though much of the focus was to be on her Oscar nominated husband, theatre director, Sophie Hunter pretty much stole the limelight from under his dapper gaze in a bright red Lanvin gown. I adore the shape of this gown but her accessories really make this outfit. And I suppose Benedict didn’t look half bad either in a crisp white tux, which worked in perfect contrast to the bold colour of Sophie’s gown <3
So that’s all folks. Biggest night of the red carpet calendar out of the way but we’re not done yet.
Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for the final red carpet round of awards season, the BRITs! Coming soon :)
