  • A Roman Holiday | A Holiday Style Wish List

Guys! I head to Rome in a week, so my brain is officially in holiday shopping mode. According the forecasts it’s gonna be a scorcher. Cue me looking wistfully (aka panicking) about what to wear and how much I can pack before I head off.

    rome-fashion-wishlist

White shirt dress, Chicwish | Stripe shorts, Matches Fashion | Linen t-shirt, Otteny | Denim skirt, Topshop | Pink shirt dress, Mango | White blouse, Glamorous | Sunglasses, Ray Ban | Tan bag, Phillip Lim | Tan sandals, John Lewis | Pleated midi skirt, Warehouse

Rome in mid-August is bound to be pretty hot, so I’m keeping my wish list light, so there’s lots of pastels, bright whites and tans shades. I’m also – for packing purposes – keeping the look classic. Think Hepburn in this post’s movie namesake with a splash of Alexa Chung.

    Bellissimo!

  • Insta-round up | July

    7 July InstaLife

Soundtrack: When I Come Around by Green Day

    Dear July,

July, this was my first time with you as an ‘adult’ (whatever that means).

I was coming off a high with you last year. Solo travel, a graduate job and y’know the small matter of actually leaving University. So much was changing. Had changed. So much was happening I barely had time to process it all. I was on the brink of figuring out what I wanted to do now that I was done with school. And now? My life feels…settled (That’s a nice word for it). I’m in a comfortable job. I work a 9-5. My weekends are free. I write blog posts. I write. I read. I spend far too much time in cafes or in bed on Netflix or Twitter. I have routine again. I have bills to pay and deadlines to meet. I feel content with my lot in life but sometimes – and you can blame it on FOMO – I wonder whether I should be doing something more exciting?

I’ve done a lot of reflecting with you July because of this. I don’t think I’m the only 23 year old to feel this way – and I think Marion’s video expressed this much better than I ever could to be honest. Being a grown up is not what I expected it to be. But in reality as I look back on this month’s Instagram photos as I do every month, if I had the chance to speak to my 15/16 year old self I wonder how would she react to my life now. Sometimes comparing your life to years ago can feel much more productive than comparing to one year ago.

This July I’ve come to terms with being ok with on my own but not necessarily lonely. I’ve gone out explored more of ‘my city’ – as this is what Oxford feels like to me now. I welcomed a friend into said city for the day and had so much fun showing it off. I went to my second convention of the year and reunited with a friend from the first I attended two year ago (it had been two years since I’d seen her too). I’ve become one of those adults that gets nostalgic listening to From Under The Cork Tree and Dookie. I’ve once again decided I really love the online community, whether that be brief instances of interaction on Twitter or full blown conversations I’ve been having with my Camp NaNoWriMo cabin. Speaking of NaNo, I’ve reignited my love of writing. I adore creating stories and I want to get published one day.

My life may not be what I imagined it when I was 15 but it’s mine and only mine. And I really like it right now. I hope I feel the same about this next year.

  • Music | 3 Millennial Musicians To Add To Your Playlists

I don’t normally talk music here but as part of my new little ‘mantra’ on blogging I thought I’d branch out of the box a little.

Though I of course love returning to my favourites there’s a whole new generation of musicians coming into play. A new age of millennials are invading the airwaves influenced by some of the greatest musicians on the planet both past and present, so here are three of my favourites that are infiltrating the scene right now.

    halsey-music
If you like Lana Del Rey, you’ll love Halsey

If you’re after some fresh blood to add to your Summer playlists, look no further than Halsey. Hailing from New Jersey, this East Coast singer could give Lana Del Rey a run for her money for the perfect music to chill to in the sunshine. A cool mix of sleepy electronic mixes and cool indie chillwave, Halsey’s brand of electronic pop feels familiar and yet utterly fresh at the same time, not to mention lyrically her words will get right under your skin – listen to Hold Me Down if you don’t believe me.

Upcoming: She’s currently killing it on tour with Imagine Dragons, but her latest single New Americana has just dropped and her first album Badlands is also due out in August.

    Recommended track: Hurricane

    george-the-poet-music
If you like Dizzee Rascal, you’ll love George the Poet

If you like your rap music with a bit of intellect George is your man. With a strong focus on socio-ecocomic politics, racism and social justice, this Cambridge alum manages to weave together both the middle and lower class worlds of the UK with music that really makes you think. He’s already got some serious critic backing behind him, not only was he listed on this year’s BBC Sound of 2015 poll, he’s was also nominated for Critics Choice Award at the Brits this year. Powerful lyrics and themes get woven into great music production, which sounds like a melting pot of two of his influences Watsky and Tupac.

Upcoming: George is currently hitting the festival circuit at the moment off the back of his single Search Party, he’ll also be touring the UK this Autumn.

    Recommended track: My City

    5SOS-music
If you like All Time Low, you’ll love 5 Seconds of Summer

High powered, unadulterated and unfiltered pop-punk hailing from the Sydney suburbs. To be honest these four Aussies (Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, Ashton Irwin and Calum Hood) are all the best bits of Busted mixed with a generous helping of All Time Low (Alex Gaskarth has even penned tracks with them). Just don’t call them a boyband, they may have toured with 1D, but they definitely march to the beat of Green Day, Blink 182, and Fall Out Boy, and could well raise the next generation of teen-punk kids.

Upcoming: The boys are right in the middle of the North American leg of their first arena tour and their new single She’s Kinda Hot has just landed (and has basically killed the fandom) with their new album due out soon!

    Recommended track: End Up Here

So what are your thoughts on these three acts? Have you heard of them before?

Feel free to give me some recommendations on your favourite Millennial musicians too! And let me know if you wanna see more of this kinda thing on the blog :D
