Halloween Costumes For The Fashion Conscious 4.0

October 23, 2015 by Ria Leave a Comment

It’s back with a vengeance! Halloween is just over a week away and it’s time to resurrect one of my favourite posts to put together. Yes, it’s the FOURTH installment of my Halloween costumes for the fashion conscious.

Alexander McQueen
Platform heels, Office | Tartan dress, New Look | Statement necklace, John Lewis

McQueen’s Savage Beauty

This year marked the label’s triumphant return to British shores as with the phenomenal Savage Beauty exhibition, showcasing the late Lee McQueen’s most controversial, extravagant and showstopping pieces over the course of his career. McQueen was known for his hauntingly beautiful yet aesthetically powerful collections, so why not take on some of his most iconic looks for Halloween? Either pinpoint and take themes from a collection (personal favourites include Plato’s Atlantis and The Widows of Culloden) or get creative with the most recognisable elements of any McQueen show (e.g. dangerously high heels, smatterings of punk inspired pieces and statement accessories).

Go the extra mile details:

  • Feather headdress
  • Chainmail
  • Floral hair accessories

beyonce 7/11
Kale sweatshirt, Etsy | Cotton pj shorts, H&M | Scrunchie, Accessorize

Beyonce in ‘7/11’

*Comfiest costume ever alert* I included ‘Yonce in last year’s post, but as always she still manages to infiltrate pop culture with some iconic looks. 7/11 seemed to come out of nowhere and yet for me it’s honestly *revs up Kanye impression*…one of my favourite Beyonce videos of all time. The look is almost like a tribute to the singer’s #IWokeUpLikeThis attitude. I’d probably reserve this outfit for house parties though – booty shorts and a t-shirt may not be advisable in October unless you have an iron clad immune system. In fact don this even if you’re not going out. Veg out in front of the TV watching Hocus Pocus in the knowledge that you totally have made an effort this year to look like Queen B.

Go the extra mile details:

  • 2015 sunglasses
  • Knee pads
  • Sweet ass dance moves
Scream Queens
Tweed jacket, Gilt | Pink heels, The Iconic | Pearl necklace, John Lewis

The Chanels (Scream Queens)

From the creative minds who brought you two of the most love/hate TV shows of the 21st Century – Glee and American Horror Story – comes Scream Queens. A total tribute to the slasher genre and filled to the brim with big names stars like Emma Roberts, Jamie Lee Curtis and Ariana Grande, the show isn’t apparently going to air until next week (perfect for Halloween then!) but you’d have to be hiding under a rock not to have picked up on ‘the look’ already. What I’m talking about are ‘The Chanels’, the pretty, popular and preppy sorority sisters of Kappa Kappa Tau. As indicated by their namesake these girls are dripping in pastel versions of Coco’s designs. It’s like the best parts of Rachel Berry and Madison Montgomery all rolled into one.

Go the extra mile details:

  • An iPhone (natch if it’s an iPhone 6)
  • A neckbrace (a la Lea Michele!)
  • Fake blood
Pretty Little Liars
Red coat, Uniqlo | Ankle boots, Dorothy Perkins

‘A’, Pretty Little Liars

#Confession: I haven’t watched a single episode of Pretty Little Liars since series one, but since I know plenty of you are way under the thumb for this show, I thought this costume would be pretty appropriate. The ‘A’ reveal was definitely one of the most hyped up moments on TV this year (or so I have been told in quickfire recap form by Erin – cheers pal!) and the one constant hint/red herring during the series has been that goddamn red coat. This an even easier costume to pull together than the 7/11 one. Plus! you can keep the coat anyway for chiller days – or if you fancy terrorising some teenage girls on Halloween night. p.s for more PLL costume ideas check out Erin’s fashion posts on her blog.

Go the extra mile details:

  • A crew dressed as Aria, Emily, Hanna, and Spencer
  • An ‘Alison’ Mask
  • Blonde wig
Marty McFly
Boyfriend jeans, Uniqlo | Denim jacket, Topshop | Sneakers, Nike

Marty McFly (Back to the Future)

And finally we may be a day or two late for the actual date but as it’s 2015, it’s still relevant! Sure we don’t have flying cars and the next best thing to hoverboards are those pathetic little wheely things that Brooklyn Beckham’s been seen on, but why not pretend all those futuristic 80s dreams came true by taking on Marty’s outfit. And for those who don’t think this is ‘fashion-worthy’, let’s get real, I’m pretty sure I seen my fair share of double denim with Nikes high-tops across some style blogs over the past few months.

Go the extra mile details:

  • A fake hoverboard
  • A metallic hat
  • A friend dressed a Doc Brown

The honourable mentions: The S/S16 DVF girl, Zoella, Blake Lively (The Age of Adaline), Cookie from Empire, 1989!Taylor Swift, Kanye’s Yeezy collection, Maddie Zeigler in Big Girls Cry.

Let me know which of these you’d love to dress up as in the comments. And don’t forget to check out some of my old Halloween posts in the archives for more ideas!

R.xoxo
